After years of consideration, the greatest Stones guitar solo ever:

I would have to say You Can't Always Get What You Want recorded in Sydney, Australia February 27, 1973...Mick Taylor absolutely burned a flawless, fluid break...none better in my humble opinion.

Rob,
Sittin' in a bar tipplin' a jar in Jackson...

Unfortunately all I've seen/heard are different mixes of the song, never a completely different take.

Keith's solo on the studio SFTD. Definitive -- perfect. That last punched bit of distortion. No Berry-isms. Pure Stones. Forget the second banana on any other boot or official release.

YOu know what makes this such a hard decision.
How many other bands have covered such a huge variety of styles with such consistant quality and without losing their unique essense. Not one.
There simply too much variety of excellence to single anything out !

I love the solo's from Keith & MT,but the more than 6 minutes solo on
You Can't Always Get What You Want, from Ronnie, played the 27th june 1975 at MSG NY is awsome.

Listen to the 3cd boot "Hold On Tight" or "Welcome Back To New York"
GREAT!!

Best live recordings imho:
Tie between Taylor on Brussels Affair's Gimme Shelter and the solos (Taylor+Richards) on Ya Ya's Sympathy.

Best studio imho:
I go for the most effective ones, brillance does not matter to me. For that reason: spot #1 for the solos in Tumbling Dice and Tie You Up.

Yeah, I particularly think of Ronnie's solo on Blinded by Rainbows.
It gets under my skin time and time again.

How do you guitar players among us rank it?
