Sorry if this has been discussed already, but from when in the early 70's does it date? '71, or '73?? From the looks of it, I'm thinking '73......

Is it really? I thought they said on the Rio DVD that it was from the early 70's, unless, of course, I heard it wrong, which is entirely possible! LOL Too many Stones shows over the years has left a mark!! smiling smiley

I have a book by Geoff Nicholls published in 1997 called "The Drum Book" and it gives this info on charlies kit.

The kit is from 1957 and is made of natural Maple. 12" X 8" tom, 16" x 16" Floor tom and 22" X 14" Bass drum.

Snare Drum (I dont think he still uses this now) 14" X 8" Pearl MLX Maple-Shell Ten Lug.

Cymbals are: 2 x UFIP Experience 18" Chinas (one with 12 rivets), An Arbiter Custon (Paiste) Formula 602, An Un-named Italian 18" Flat Ride, and 14" Avedis Zildjian Hi-Hats.

Hardware: Gretsch Techware (Cymbal Stands and Snare Stand that hold the 12" tom),
Rogers Swiv-O-Matic (Vintage) Hi-Hat Stand and a Ludwig (vintage) Speedking Bass Drum Pedal (with Heel Plate Reversed)

Heads: Remo CS Black Dots (top and bottom of toms), Coated Remo Ambassador (Snare), Clear Evans Hydrualic (Bass Drum).

His kit is from the 50's, see the round badgde, but he hired it in the early 70's during a session with Ronnie! He liked it so much he bought it of the rentalfirm. He's been using it ever since. it;s priceless, this set. Look at the 12" tom; there's a fair bit of lacquer dammage from the snaredrum bouncing against it. You can see the dammaged side is turned towards the front. CHarlie used several snaredrums the last couple of years. When he purchased the set it had a ludwig 6,5 inch deep snare. Used it for many years , now he plays wood snares.

He has a second set which he got refurbished. He used that set on b-stage before the ABB tour.
