Thanks schillid, That brings back some very good memories. It was the longest party I have ever been to. We watched the TV special from the very first minute until the end. It was a 16 hours broadcast here in Germany. I almost gone nuts when Bob introduced "some very good friends of mine ... here's ....". That was fantastic. Unfortunately the performance of the three wasn't.
it was a f666g great event at the time. I remember being infront the tv all day long. Phil Collins played both shows thank to the Concorde. Mick was amazing, a high energy level. I loved the duet with Tina. To see Page Plant again was a highlight too !
It was a long day. I can still recall the incongruity of Ozzy or Judas Priest at 11:00 in the morning...
It was so hot. They were hosing down the parched crowd. By the time it got to the evening's headliners, the audience was toast - literally, .
It must have been difficult to keep the instruments in tune, due to the humidity and the heat. Dylan's set was a mess. Dylan popped a string on his guitar, in the middle of "Blowin In the Wind." So Bob's guitat was thrown completely out of tune. Seeing this, Ronnie had turned to Dylan, and quickly grabbed Bob's guitar... handing Bob his own guitar. Then Woody left the stage, and returned with another guitar. Unfortunately, Woody found that the guitar that he now had was not tuned to the same pitch as the other guitarists' instruments. Resourceful and desperate, Woody took a slide out of his pocket... which enabled him to play in between keys on his guitar and try to sound in tune with Bob and Keith. Ronnie gave it a good try.
A number of good acts... Mick and Tina's set was a definite highlight for me.
