I think its the same evening (?Keith white jacket)
the pictures on stage are from Neal Preston and the one posted before backstage is from Joe Stevens(?)
unfortunately, have only this one from backstage...
good to make you happy Wsssoul, if you need a bigger size or better resolution of that backstage picture, no problem

ohhh THANK you, Sugar Brown! yeah, if you have a larger/higher resolution version of that backstage shot
i would love that, thank you! and thanks for identifying the photographer as well.

sorting out which gigs the various Barbarian shots are from can be really tricky,
but Neal Preston's Barbarian shots (at least the ones in circulation) seem to be from two nights:
the CNIB shows and LA; these you've posted here look like other LA shots of his i've got.
that wonderful backstage shot, on the other hand, seems likely to be from Houston (although it's hard to be *very* sure).
i've seen one more backstage shot that was clearly taken just before or just after that one
but i don't have it in my collection yet, unfortunately ... someday!

I didn't notice it as I scrolled this NB thread, but the (Ron's) Wooden Records New Barbarians 2 cd set ("Buried Alive: Live In Maryland") from a few months back is now issued with Keith and Ron on the cover, not just Ron. Same serial number...I used to have this boot but as it was stolen 6 years ago compare the sound, just that it is grungey, big, funky, sometimes sloppy, sometimes great rock n roll, sometimes sweet (Breathe On Me, Apartment Number 9, Let's Go Steady)...As stated, very coked sounding, especially the vocals (& dope in thar them grooves too), but as I only barely knew the Meters in '79 when I attended MSG it's great to hear Zig play so hard, & in the pocket with Stanley, on an official document (aside from 'Truly' on Mac's album) of this truly all star band at the turn of the decade...First Stones 'solo' or side project tour....

BTW I vividly remember the title of Lester Bangs' review on MSG: "Keith's Shag Gets A Perm"

that title always stuck with me. Also his description of the Stanley Clarke bass solo was like "crash, bang, pow, boom, slam" wish i could remember

RIP Lester.

Bangs called the band a garage band and stated Richards was "propped up on his legend" for most of the night.

It was more than rumors that had fans anticipating special guests, the radio ads were actually teasing special guests and played Brown Sugar during the ad.
It didn't matter, I saw them at the now defunct Richfield Coliseum about 10 rows back. At the time it was the best show I ever saw (remember I sat through 1978's Municipal Stadium show by the Stones). Later the Stones would eclipse this show many times. My wife and friend sat elsewhere and when I met them at the car they were all pissed off because some drunk spilled beer on them, they left the show early. Quite a buzz kill, but not enough to squash my high after seeing Ronnie and Keef rock out.

ps Ronnie was using that nusic stand for real, it wasn't a prop.
