Been listening to the Frankfurt boot, MT certainly was in great shape!

Can anyone recommend a boot with really good (A+) sound quality from that tour?

What's the story of MT with BD, simply a hired man or something more? Why did it end?

Funny to hear MT drop in here and there typical Keith chops in his solos. I also noted that more than one line come directly from his period with the Stones, others are quite original, jazzier, and sound great!

Mick Taylor played at some Dylan albums!

All 27 shows from that tour are available, most in great quality, and a few as complete or partial soundboards. Theres also soundboard quality recordings of some of the rehearsals.

Performance wise, the best show is probably Barcelona.

This was the only tour Dylan did between 1981 and 1986, which is why it 'ended'.

From The Mountains Of Madrid

one of these compiles a lot of the rarer songs in best available quality from various European shows - stuff like Eileen Aroon if my memory serves me right

Yes, I'll go for Barcelona too. However, don't search around for any "bootlegs" of Barcelona 84, because they do not sound as good as the version which is circulating among traders/collectors...maybe there is a torrent of it somewhere, haven't seen that best version on the web though.
I got it from a CD-tree, years ago
Basel is also terrific...Rome is soundboard, and it's pretty good, but you can't hear much of Taylor though

Eileen Aroon wasnt played by Dylan until 1988-89 or so

Its just a standard setlist from that tour, but the version of Blowin In The Wind that closes the show is by some distance the best rendition of it EVER. Just a superb performance, with Bob in great mood and a terrific audience.

yep....that Barcelona boot is excellent......great Taylor guitar too

I think the reason MT left Dylan was that he felt Bob was not giving him proper songwriting credits.

After MT's brief and odd tour with Alvin Lee in late '81, he rejoined Mayall's Bluesbreakers for a Reunion Tour of Australia. The band included Colin Allen (D) and John McVie (. They were booked into the Roxy in LA for some warm-up gigs. When the owner of 3 clubs in the Bay Area heard about it, he booked them into his clubs, so the Reunion Tour actually started there. When they did play the Roxy a few days later, Dylan came backstage and suggested doing some stuff with Taylor. Taylor did studio work with Dylan on the Infidals album in '83. Taylor ended the Reunion Tour period in Spring '84 and joined Dylan to get ready for the Summer European Tour. The "Real Live" album came from that tour.

The '84 European Tour is not popular with the Bobcats, but it is treasure trove for Taylor fans. There is hardly a bad recording from that tour and many of them have a consistent and wonderful sound quality with good bass whumf! Someone (a stagehand?) used fine equipment and was up close. The tour was under-rehearsed and the band started sloppy, but got better as it went along. Amazing that Taylor could walk on stage and play the songs he did with minimal preparation. He's a pro and an artist.

Van Morrison joined Bob on stage at a few shows. Santana joined the band on the electric encore numbers (Those who like to call Taylor's playing on CYHMK 'Santana-esque" should hear this. You'll KNOW what Taylor and Santana are playing and recognize a difference!). At the Wembley show EC joined the band along with Van and Chrissie Hynde. Talk about guitar pros...MT and EC! There is a partial video of that show. If you want to see the happiest person on earth, ever, watch Hynde. She's in RnR heaven on earth!

There are so many good recording from that tour, it is hard to name them all, but, yes, Barcelona comes to mind first. It also has the advantage of being later in the tour when the band is hitting its stride.

Taylor is immensely proud of having worked with Dylan.

There is recording of BD talking with KR and RW at Live Aid or one of those aid shows, in which BD claims to have tried to meet with Taylor and Taylor not following up. I have never heard Taylor's side of the story. Too bad, he would have been a nice addition on BD's recent albums.

They both got them from the same place: Chuck Berry. You can hear the Berry (filtered through Otis Rush, to my ears) influence in Highway 61.

He clearly continued to develop his playing post-Stones. But you can also hear him play the CYHMK signature lead during All Along the Watchtower (Brussels show?).

Live Aid Rehearsal. I think he said something like expecting him at some recording sessions in '85 and he never showed up. He is on one song on EMPIRE BURLESQUE.

There's also some great playing on the Infidels outtakes, all Dylan fans, but also Taylor fans should hear. A great collection: "Outfidels Intakes" is on some torrent-sites out there...for those who torrent

And of course the INFIDELS outtakes that were released on THE BOOTLEG SERIES.

Yeah, and there is DVD too,Infedels Years with sessions of Mick, Bob, Mark Knopfer and J.Baez.

Got this from Dylantree some years ago, it's the best sounding version of the famous Barcelona 1984 concert, better than the CD releases. Please read "comments from the liner notes"

"He (Walt) wanted me to tree the wonderful CDR I have of this Barcelona show. It is from the master tapes and is better than the CD boot that exists of this show. I would like to tree it in his memory. It is one of my favourite Dylan shows of all time.
The taper put the set on 3 CDR's to get every bit of what he recorded. I have put them on 2 CDR's and the results are excellent. What a GREAT show this is. It took a bit of time trying to cross-fade Knockin' On Heaven's Door with the song before it due to a tight edit by the taper. Tape must have run out at that point I guess. But all the songs are intact. The edit was during the applause and is now nonexistent."

BTW, the song listed above as "Just My Imagination" isnt the Temptations hit which the Stones covered on 'Some Girls'. It's correct title is 'I've got to Use My Imagination' - written (with Gerry Goffin) and recorded by Barry Goldberg on his self titled early 70s album (co-produced by Dylan himself) and also a big hit for Gladys Knight & The Pips.

I honestly don't know where I stored this show (or if I still have the files... cos this one show was a big disappointment for me. Maybe 84 Dylan is not for me. I prefer 86 or the early NET).
Maybe Erik Snow will post the show since he was the one who re-torrented it at Dime.
If he doesn't I'll try to see what I can do.

Hi dcba, no I didn't "reseed" it, I made the torrent to begin with - taken from CDRs I got from trading in the 90s.
Brilliant concert and recording in every way

I agree Barcelona is the best show on this tour. Dylan played the only version of Lay Lady Lay from this tour at this show and launched into Senor spontaneously for the Spanish audience. I also agree with Gazza about the Blowin In The Wind from this show complete with a singalong if you can imagine that - it is one of the warmest moments at any Dylan show. I also really like Cologne. In particular I like the version of Willie Nelson's Why Do I Have To Choose with MT playing slide along with Santana. Generally Bobcats felt MT was a poor choice for Dylan - didn't follow Dylan's fits of fancy, his amazing guitar sound notwithstanding

Cologne's a good show indeed. 'Why do I have to choose' is excellent.

This is 'Blowin' in the wind' in Barcelona. A great singalong for 2 am!
