Ryan Adams wrote 'Song for Keith'? Are you sure? Aren't you mixing Ryan up with Nils Lofgren, who wrote Keith Don't Go?

Has anyone heard anything from his new album "Easy Tiger"? The advance word on it is pretty good. I think it comes out in early June. I loved his last onslought of albums, particularly "Jacksonville City Nights" which reminded me a lot of the aforementioned Gram Parsons!

Go to www.alt-country.org and www.ryanadamsarchive.com. The former is a forum full of - for the most part - mouthy University students and people with a crass sense of humor. Should anything be available or should anything have leaked somebody there may have something. The only thing I've heard was Goodnight Rose and the video of the band doing it on the Henry Rollins show is already up at Youtube.

I'm a late-bloomer to Ryan Adams - first got into him in late 2005 right before Jacksonville City Nights came out. I had the pleasure of seeing him and the Cardinals last October at Ludwigshafen for what may have been the best show on the European tour (a sdbd is available over at www.archive.org - in fact many sdbd recordings are available there). It was a mellow setlist and the entire band remained seated the entire evening. Purely magic.

I don't really care what people say about him - that he's obnoxious, a self-righteous and arrogant bastard, etc.. He's always writing new material and when it's good, it's really good. Although he's no Dylan he's one of the best singer/songwriter's of my generation and I can't say I'm ashamed. It's nice to hear somebody make real hand-made honest music in today's world of overproduced made-for-the-masses pop garbage.

My favories:

Cold Roses
Heartbreaker
Gold
Demolition
Jacksonville City Nights

I'm not a big fan of his Love Is Hell, which seems to be a hardcore fan favorite. I prefer his more countrified Grateful Dead / Allman Brothers / Rolling Stones music. It's more organic and something I can relate to better.

Peace Out,

Duane-O

I think my opinion is based on facts! He opened for the Stones I think in 2002 at MSG and he was HORRIBLE! I could not believe how bad he was! That ws not entertaining in the least and the crowd even booed him! Just plain NOISE!

sorry to hear you didn't enjoy him.
perhaps you'd soften your opinions if you saw him,
headlining his own show in a setting that isn't
of aircraft hangar proportions.

Madison Square Garden is not that huge! I guess his jumping all over the speakers and spitting all over the stage kinda turned me off, not to mention the volume was up so high you couldn't hear what he was singing. I just can't think that he'd be GOOD even at his own gig! To each her own!

Glad you agree with my QUEENIE becaue I KNOW what I saw and I really find it hard to imagine a Stones fan finding THAT entertaining! As I said, most of the crowd where I was, stage left, 12 rows back, booed him, LOUDLY!.

Maybe Kayne West or The black Eyed Peas are more to your taste?

Most Stones fans couldnt give a shit about the support act anyway. They'd probably friggin' boo Muddy Waters if he was still around.

To judge an artist's entire worth solely on the basis of one's lack of appreciation for them as an opening act at a Stones show is nonsensical.

No Adrian, as a matter of fact I hated the Black Eyed Peas and Kayne West was THE MOST disgusting of them all! However, that has not always been the case; I loved the Corrs, and really loved John Mayer, alot! Going way back, I enjoyed Foreigner,& Stevie Wonder and The Pretenders were ok. I surely don't select Stones venues based on the opening act though!

I've seen plenty of decent, or good acts sound really bad when opening for the Stones. Somehow this slot will look good on paper but in reality it turns out thaT THEy often play to an ungrateful impatient crowd and through a terrible PA. The Stones do not let the openers use the good stuff. I have to admit the best band I ever saw opening for the Stones was of all people No Doubt. I am no fan but they did well. Kept it simple.

very enjoyable show, at London's Koko club, last night...

(b.t.w - i bumped into Mr Jimmy, who was queuing outside of The Electric Ballroom for the 'secret' Paul McCartney club show... he'd secured a wristband, earlier in the day, and was very much looking forward to seeing Macca in such intimate surroundings... hope you had a good one, Jimmy....)

Anyway..back to the Koko show!
Ryan & The Cardinals came on stage at 9pm prompt..there was no support..but it wasn't needed.
The packed venue was buzzing with anticipation and excitment.
Ryan was dressed like one of the 'Reservoir Dogs'... in a black suit,
black tie, white shirt and shades..very cool.
It was an acoustic show, with Ryan, solely on vocal duties...his wonderful band playing behind him.

Highlights for me, were amazing renditions of 'Carolina Rain' and
'Goodnight Hollywood Blvd'...but the new material from 'Easy Tiger' was great too, and enthusiastically received....with alot of fans singing along to the words, even though the albums not released for a couple more weeks.

With little interaction with the audience for the main set
(has he been watching Dylan??), and a short encore, the show was over by 10.15...short, sharp and very sweet....
hopefully a boot will surface in the not too distant future.

setlist:-

1. Games
2. Oh My God, Whatever...
3. Blue Hotel
4. The Sun Also Sets
5. Nightbirds
6. I Taught Myself How To Grow Old
7. Carolina Rain
8. Goodnight Rose
9. Dear John
10. Pearls On A String
11. Goodnight Hollywood Boulevard
12. Rip Off
13. How Do You Keep Love Alive
14. I See Monsters

Encore:
15. Winding Wheel
16. Down In A Hole
17. Two
