Albums in concert

Roger Waters' tour got me thinking......since I've only been seeing the boys live since 1997, I have yet to see all of the songs from 1 album performed live. LIB comes closest, I think, with only Love in Vain and Country Honk missing, followed by Some Girls with Lies, Far Away Eyes, and Imagination. How many whole albums have you seen performed over the years?? Looking forward to the results!!
thanks

No I mean actually witnessing for one's self the songs on any given stones album in concert - not necessarily at once, just over time. For instance, in the 12 times, I have seen them, I have seen them perform all but Love in Vain and Country Honk live. Ya follow??

Before Nikkibong posts the same: I've seen pretty much of 40 licks live! (In all honesty: exactly 50%).

I've seen 80% of Live Licks too ;-)

But still, I have the feeling i'm not touching your point... Anyway: my five shows won't help me much on the other albums, I'm afraid. But let's see...

Sticky Fingers: 5/10
Let It Bleed: 4/9, good hopes for one who knows two others in Paris: You Got The Silver, and maybe LIB/LIV?

Most others less than 4 songs, I guess... Even some with none, I'm sure.

I think Some Girls is the only one where you could have seen the whole album. I believe I've seen all of it live. Isn't it the only Stones disc where all songs have been played live? LIB is next closest, although you could argue HTW is a fair replacement of Country Honk, and thus the album has been all-played.

I think you're right Karl now that you mention it! I think I just read that some where about Some Girls. So much for my thought! LOL

Having seen Roger Waters the other night where he played Dark Side of the Moon in its entirety, and a quite superb performance it was too, it would be an interesting concept for the Stones to have tried......first half of the show to play a 'featured' album (LIB, SF, BB, etc) and the second half of the show to play a varied setlist as they do now. It will never happen of course but would have been cool and kept both the hardcore fans and the more casual observers happy.

Bowie did a very interesting series of concerts in which he chose 2/3 albums a night and performed them in their entirety. He tried to theme the show so that the albums had something in common eg. Young Americans and Black Tie, White Noise. This gave the performances a really interesting kick that the Stones could benefit from.

I have seen all of "Some Girls". Mst of it in 78 and then the title track in '99. I just realized that I have never seen a single song of "Black and Blue" live.

ChelseaDrugstore, are you sure? Did you not catch Hand Of Fate somewhere during Licks? Or Hot Stuff?

Chelsea,
Memory Motel is truly a special moment - I do believe I have seen that one at one of my early shows. I'll have to go check

OK just checked my setlists, and I've not heard Memory Motel either! But I did get Crazy Mama on BTB in Foxboro. I also realized that perhaps the greatest show I've ever seen them perform is the one that I can recall the least for some reason (and low and behold in that setlist was Love In Vain, which leaves only Country Honk on LIB as not heard live). Here's the Licks setlist for Hartford:

Street Fighting Man
It's Only Rock'n Roll
If You Can't Rock Me
Don't Stop
Rocks Off
Love In Vain
Let It Bleed
Monkey Man
Gimme Shelter
Tumbling Dice
--- Introductions
Slipping Away (Keith)
Before They Make Me Run (Keith)
Start Me Up
Love Train
Honky Tonk Women
Can't You Hear Me Knocking
Satisfaction
Mannish Boy (B-stage)
You Got Me Rocking (B-stage)
Brown Sugar (B-stage)
Midnight Rambler (Encore)
Jumping Jack Flash (Encore)

I'm even more upset because I got CYHMK and I don't remember it too well, but that guitar work on the cd is superb!!

anyone know if they've ever performed Moonlight Mile?

Yes Jelle, I had forgotten - I have seen Hand of Fate in 03. Thanks. The thing was that I was otherwise detained for much of the Licks tour, so I only caught some of the big outdoor shows.
Karl, "Black and Blue" also has had all songs done live.

>> anyone know if they've ever performed Moonlight Mile? <<

yeah they have.
and there are five or six (studio) albums that they've performed all the numbers from in concert -
Gazza and/or Erikjjf will be along shortly to list them, i'm just the announcer. :E

ohh well if it's a question of being counted on! :E

Out of Our Heads (the US version)
Let It Bleed (if you count the fragment of Country Honk performed at Knebworth 76)
Sticky Fingers
Black & Blue
Some Girls

Sticky Fingers
Let it Bleed
Black and Blue
Only ones I can think of. There are some where they just need to play one little tune and they would join the ranks. "Banquet" missing Jigsaw Puzzle.

sssoul, are you sure about that one? Under Assistant West Coast Promo Man?

So there really aren't that many complete ones. 3 performed all the way. and "Banquet" and "Tattoo" are pretty close. I think some of the very early ones have also been picked over. The middle bunch (Aftermath, Buttons, Satanic) was never much of a live vehicle.
We should do a thread on the album with the LEAST performed live. I bet "Buttons" wins. "Dirty Work" and Buttons.

I think they did both "Harlem Shuffle" and "One Hit" in '89.

Of course, Juan, it was a slip of the brain

i think we should count Dirty Work as 2.2 numbers, since Too Rude was performed in concert
by one-fifth of the Stones in the fine company of the X-Pensive Winos :E

We'll make it 2.4, as Jagger did Winning Ugly in 88.

cool - it's a deal. :E
so 4 or 5 albums (depending whether you count Country Honk) played in full so far;
and Out of Our Heads (UK) and Let It Bleed (if you don't count Country Honk) with just one unperformed number each?
