I try to collect ABB Tour's warhorses:
(warhorses for me are: overplayed greatest hits)

Satisfaction
Jumping Jack Flash
You Can't Always Get What You Want
Honky Tonk Women
Brown Sugar
Tumbling Dice
Angie
Sympathy For The Devil
Start Me Up
Miss You
Midnight Rambler
Let's Spend The Night Together

I love warhorses!!!

Yes, maybe you are right.

While it may be 'overplayed' to many, Angie isnt played that regularly to be one, either

Midnight Rambler isnt really either and LSTNT certainly isnt.

On ABB Tour Midnight Rambler is. But it's my favourite, please play it in Budapest!!!

Angie hasn't been played more than 15 times this tour.

Satisfaction
Jumping Jack Flash
You Can't Always Get What You Want
Honky Tonk Women
Brown Sugar
Tumbling Dice
Sympathy For The Devil
Start Me Up
Miss You
Midnight Rambler

So ABB Tour has 10 warhorses. They used to play about 20 songs, so half of the show are warhorses. I think this is natural for a band which started to play 45 years ago.And I think they must play these songs, of course!

The problem is that they wrote a lot of fantastic songs, and they have to play them everywhere in the world.
I'm quite satisfied with this situation.

it wasnt as high a % as that on previous tours. If half the show is the same every tour, and then you allow 3-4 new songs plus Keith's set, it doesnt really leave room for much else.

And I think they must play
> these songs, of course!

Dont agree. Theres no 'must play every night' songs. Every single one of those songs could be rotated in and out of the set at any time - even if it has to be at the expense of other songs which are equally or almost as well known - many of which hardly ever get played.

If they were able to drop 'Satisfaction' and 'Miss You' for an entire US tour as recently as 1999 without fans demanding refunds and swearing never to go back, then theres no reason why they still cant rest some of these.

Said it before, but theyve long ago earned the right to play what they like - not what they feel obliged to play.

Didn´t they play songs by request on a tour a couple of years ago? People could mail songs they wanted to hear if I remember correctly. A good idea anyway.

If you only see the stones once on every tour then none of them are warhorses, I look forward to hearing all the big numbers every three years or so.

If you go to every gig on every tour then perhaps you WILL get fed up hearing the same songs, just remember they are not playing to a few individuals they are playing to the thousands who don't see them very often.

It's done twice actually. On the Bridges To Babylon Tour you could vote for a song on their website. Also they did it on this tour. You could make your wishlist and then they'd look it over and maybe try some of them (Sway being the most obvious one they took from this one).

which worked fine at first until they started 'fixing' it....

probably the only one, I would wager. Every recent tour they seem to pull out a song which hasnt been played before (or has hardly ever been played) that - having checked the internet sites - they see is a 'hardcore favourite'.

Moonlight Mile, CYHMK, Sway were the ones in question on the last three tours. All from the same album, oddly enough. Another Sticky Fingers song, I Got The Blues, was maybe another, also being dusted off in 1999.

I think that maybe As Tears Go By was one of them also on this tour. Maybe even She Was Hot and She's So Cold too.

How can you forget Its Only Rock n Roll and You Got Me Rocking. Every Stones show I have ever seen has included these two, except the great Beacon show.

I'd say 12 warhorse for every show during ABB, and they played ONNYA and Rough Justice at just about every show. Which was fine by me, but just wish they did more new songs.

Re: Warhorses

Yes we forgot It's Only Rock And Roll, so there are 11 warhorses on ABB Tour.

But You Got Me Rocking is defenitely not a warhorse!

Satisfaction
Jumping Jack Flash
You Can't Always Get What You Want
Honky Tonk Women
Brown Sugar
Tumbling Dice
Sympathy For The Devil

Miss You

These three songs are the complete opposite of a "warhorse".
Especially She Was Hot, which has only been played 10 times.

Re: Warhorses

1962, if you look it up, You Got Me Rocking was played almost twice as many times during the ABB tour than Midnight Rambler and just about every single US gig.. Unfortunately.

And yes about She Was Hot, She So Cold and As Tears Go By. Two of these tunes were never played before and the other not played in 25 years.

Re: Warhorses

Warhorses for me are overplayed greatest hits. Well You Got Me Rocking is definitely not in the greatest hits class. But of course a good Stones rocker.

Re: Warhorses

I see, didn't know how you defined warhorse. I guess with You Got Me Rocking its just song they do at just about every show since 1994, don't think it deserves that kind of play or even a spot of the 40 Licks greatest hits album. Many newer songs that they could put in its place.

I think he was referring to my earlier post about unearthing an internet fan favourite

No way is 'Midnight rambler' a warhorse. Its omitted almost as often as it gets played and wasnt even on 40 Licks!

Agree with the rest

Considering its only been played regularly on two tours in the last thirty years, what would YOUR definition be?

I agree, there are ten warhorses. Midnight Rambler isn't one of them because it's only played 50% of the time. The warhorses are:

Satisfaction
Jumping Jack Flash
You Can't Always Get What You Want
Honky Tonk Women
Brown Sugar
Tumbling Dice
Sympathy For The Devil
Start Me Up
Miss You
It's Only Rock And Roll

i wwould love them to drop

its only rock and roll
satisfaction
honky tonk woman
tumbling dice
start me up
miss you
angie

and replace with

silver train
the last time
stray cat blues
rocks off
hang fire
far away eyes
lady jane

why cant they do that, replace quality that has been played to death with other quality that would be fresh for most concerts.

you are wrong
has been played 81/82 97/98 05/06
and lstnt is one of the stones most famous songs
that makes it a warhorse anyways !!
