The Black Crowes are touring in the US untill aug. 18th, so I don't think they'll be supporting (see www.blackcrowes.com).

Who's fighting, and what for?

as said earlier, the Crowes are in America on the day of the Slane show (Portland, ME to be precise) so they wont be at the Stones gig.

There are some shows where it may take Cohl to invest some money in a big name support act to boost slow sales. Slane, however, as a show which sold out in a few hours isnt one of them .

Any rumours for London openers yet? Hopefully we'll get a couple of good ones. I may be more tempted to leave the pub!

It has always been a dream of mine to see the Crowes open for the Stones - what a great concert that would be. They would have been a great band to carry rock's torch if they could have made it past all the bickering.

I thought they were fĂșcking awful at Wembley in 1995. A huge let down.
Its never an easy gig to be fair.

That seemed to be the general consensus from the crowd at all 3 Wembley shows, Nikki (and on page 1 of this thread!). Seriously - they were about as popular as a fart in a space suit.

never been a fan of their music, but I like the IDEA of them in principle. Long shows, random setlists, fan friendly. They tick all the right boxes for me, but I've just never been able to get into them despite trying.

An absolutely STUNNING guitar based act from the hinterlands of Mali. They take American blues BACK from the century old field hollars and Muddy Waters grunge of fifty years ago and turn it into something fabulously emotive and somehow modern. One would like to think these guys were added at Keith's behest as they are all drive and passion. Robert Plant's son-in-law Justin Adams plays on several tracks. ASTOUDING STUFF.

I'm very much looking forward to them. I'm sure a more trad' act, like the trainwreck that IS Guns'N'Roses today will fill a middle slot wherein I'll be in the beer line.

The Black Crowes can't be "sampled", you have to "follow" them. Only then their shows make sense. If that makes any sense! But sure they're can't be on fire every night, still I'd blame setlists for most of the lukewarm concert experiences. If you're not a hard core Crowes fan, you might not know half the songs sometimes.

have to agree with rrronnie, had the Black Crowes as a support in in Basel and I think it was one of the worst supports I have seen though everybody was talking about the quality of the band.
I liked Simple Minds last year in Stuttgart and nothing compares to J.Geils Band in 81/82. Mostly the support act doesn't get a very good pa and the sound is awful. That's also one of the reasons I like seated pitch. So you can avoid that bit.
