Madonna used to be the musical pinup girl of the late 80s/early 90s.
With the visual element being so important today for chart success by way of music videos, the number of musical pinup girls has increased: Kylie Minogue, Christina Aguilera and Gwen Stefani come to mind. Even rather nonmusical celebritneys go this route now, like the Paris Hilton hotel. Add to that girl groups who have their success down to barely anything but their bodily appearance, like the Cheeky Girls for example (Anybody remembers them?!)

But if pop charts were for teenagers, who think in hormonally dominated categories, then Gwen Stefani's op-art allusions and nonsensical lyrics and solo career music make her avantgarde. But the promotional success of Bob Dylan's Modern Times proves that this scheme is an oversimplification.

Allison Moorer - definately! Generally fine music and a superb voice - great live, too.
Carlene Carter certainly up until about 1996, after that her, er, lifestyle seems to have taken its toll. Great artist mind you - ever seen her live?

Carlene's most infamous gaffe was when she played London in the early 80's and announced to the crowd that she was "going to put the cu*t in country music".

Unknown to her, her mum June Carter and Johnny Cash were in the audience. They werent amused.....

Kind of interesting that - I'm sure she did say it in London but then she allegedly said the same thing to a New York crowd and various other audiences too. Still, in the pre-internet days that kind of story could take months to circulate...

At one stage she used to open her shows with a quality version of Dave Edmunds 'I Knew The Bride'.

always found Ms Twain very easy-on-the-eye.
seen her live a coupe of times.
A great band behind her, covered up weak vocals, on both occasions.
but when you look as good as she does, somehow it doesn't really matter...

I saw Joan live in 1983. She had a big smash with I Love Rock 'n Roll one year prior but for some reason the promoter didn't promote the tour and so it turned out that the 6000-7000 seat arena was nearly empty. Only around 300 (!!) people showed up I learned later. Joan couldn't care less. She and her excellent band, the original Blackhearts, rocked the place like there is no tomorrow. I had the time of my life. It was a brilliant concert and Joan and her band gave it all. Pure rock and roll. To me she is the queen of Rock. No competition. Joan rules!!!

Stevie Nicks from to, Carlene Carter up till ... I confess, I wrote Linda Ronstadt with long hair - but that sounds a bit chauvinistic even to me as a man. It's not hard to find a 22 year old attractive female person (as these are the conditions why she got a record contract, to be cynical...).
So, can anyone post a 52/62 year old attractive - which might cause a debate whether Cher can be included as she gets "backdated" all the while.
