love you live

I dont understand why a lot of you on here dont like love you live. With arguments that Jagger is not singing good etc. I must admit I had some doubts about that whole live area (esp Jaggers singing) but now Ive realised forever that his whole performance in the period 75 76, esp paris 76(remember keith just heard the news his baby died)-only this makes love you live a real gem to the real stones fan-
Its really a perfect stones album, just next to Some girls, and comparing with the big four and of course get yer ya yas out.

I used to dig Love You Live, but 10 years ago, some 1975 and 1978 bootlegs came around...and gave Love You Live a damn good beating.
Still a few nice ones there, especially side 3/4.

sorry i just realised I didnt end my rave about Jaggers live singing in the period 75 76, o9k its different than the studio takes, but thats the whole point, like he says in the movie stones in the park, the studio is where you make it perfect, but live its a diffrent vibe, Its liveeee, and thats what you hear(and feel) on love you live.

I remember listening to LYL nonstop when it came out! It was fresh and the mix was crisp! Whoo!!!! And Sympathy was the coolest, with those bangers going off all loud and creepy before it started!

Side 4 is great, even the 2 songs from Paris, I love that side

Great moments on LYL:

Long, percussive intro into HTW

Excellent medley on side 1 w/revamped version of Get Off My Cloud (funky!!)

Crackin' Up!! Love it!

Roudy, energetic version of Around and Around ("It's 12 O'CLOCK!!...")

I always loved this double album... I like it on cd, as it is just a nice, long listen of live Stones; overdubs or not, I think it sounds great. Also love Fingerprint File!!

Just spoke about this in another recent thread.. but I love Love you Live. One of my favorites and when I first got into the Stones I listened to this non-stop.

Side3 is one of the best side of recorded Stones. No doubt.
I think it's Side 2 that is so bad that it taints the whole album. HTW itself IMO is terrible. But I always think it was the worst opening number they ever had.
Cloud, Hot Stuff, @#$%& are pretty hot and Side 4 is great.

Me too although my dad had Let it bleed, PIT single, the Rolling Stones and OFOH.

Me too. Lol. And then the rest of course. But i did listen to them from an early age. Love you liove was my first album and the one i got hooked on. I felt Keiths guitar and didnt give a shite about Micks singing. It is also the record that thought me how to play the guitar.

There's the strongest argument right there....

The best '75 boots (e.g., Buffalo, LA 7/13) knock the snot out of LYL.

cant believe no one has mentioned the El Mocambo side -- that is the best part of the album.

And are there good boots available from the entire El Mocambo show?

I bought this on record 2 months ago at a shop that sells, among other things, used records. Got it in great shape.

Their performances are far from stellar, but the good-time vibe is very much present and great to listen to.

I'll have to give it another listen. Must admit it's the album I listen to the least. I think the sound quality is deplorable.

It's been mentioned Timber. And you are right IMO; it is the best thing about LYL.

Some of the performances on there are quite good. I love side 4. Somebody said they couldn't believe nobody had mentioned the El Mocambo side but that's side 3 and I've seen it mentioned in a few posts. Maybe its' not as recognizable when its' called "side 3".

I actually like the whole album, but I can get into the druggy '75/'76 shows. I do think '75 was better than '76 and although its' hard to argue when people call '76 their worst tour, I still like to listen to a good '76 show. The two Paris shows in sb (6/6 and 6/7) are fun to hear and so is Lyon 6/9. I even like the Earls Court sb recordings even though the performance is not that great (5/22 isn't that bad).

I like it. It has it's own vibe and charm . I think it's wrong to compare live albums from different eras in a "better" or "worse" sense. Together they give us a perspective on how the band's live sound and arrangements have evolved over the years. I love 'em all for something or other !

Some of the '76 performances are decent enough. In fact, I actually like the Abattoirs shows as they were broadcast. For some unknown reason, they managed to record about 30 shows, edited a shortlist down of performances they could work with, overdubbed and mixed them - and STILL managed to come off with a series of ropey performances.

The '75 and '77 songs on LYL are very good though - they should have stuck with those!

The next Live album by the Stones should be small club again. They are unbeatable:

El Mocambo
Marquee 71
Stripped album
Stripped Companion
Closer Than Close
Wiltern
Circus Krone
Palais Royale
Vredenburg
Las Vegas 97/99

I don't need anymore recordings of a breathless Jagger doing 10 minute versions of "Satisfaction" and "Brown Sugar" and endless "Yeah Yeah", "Whoo!" chants at the crowd. I have plenty. Live it is fun.
But for a recording I could use some more gems of them in the intimate settings. I JUST got through two back to back runs of "Stripped" and I am once again floored. It's healthy to get a kick in the ass-reminder why they are the best.

Marquee 1971 is one of the absolute weakest performances I've heard from the 69-73 era, it's very very very beatable

AAACK!!! Weak?! That show is so tight, and the sound is sooo good... The groove of Satisfaction on that show has been the subject of past threads, as it was never done that way ever again. They abandoned the riff and all the sudden the song has a new life... Also love MR, Dead Flowers, on that show and everything else. I think '71 Marquee is my favorite boot of all. I guess we all have our opinions! I would say that show is NOT weak, but is in fact one of the all time STRONGEST, best sets they've ever done.

The band obviously didnt think so, as they were so disgusted with the performance they wouldnt allow the show to be seen in the UK.

If you must pick a great show from 1971, the Leeds University one blows the balls off it

It sounds like you are talking about the 1971 setlist in general, and of course that was a great set, but compared to every 1970 and 1971 shows I've heard, they don't get it together AT ALL in Marquee, if you have heard London Roundhouse...the last show before Marquee...you'll hear an EXTREMELY different attitude and energy.

With me I think the DVD (or the video) of Marquee took a LOT away from the performance. When I still had only the audio I was all happy. Rambler and Bitch and I got the Blues all sounded great to me. Once I saw Keith though I got too critical. On that list Marquee might be the weak one, but my point i here that I'd rather hear Marquee type Stones a million times over an echo drenched, Horns and Leavell stadium Stones.
