OT: BOB DYLAN - "I'm in awe of McCartney...he can do it all"
Posted by: HelterSkelter ()
Date: April 22, 2007 06:48

Just recieved the new ROLLING STONE (40th Anniversary issue) with new interviews by most of the people that "made a difference" in the 60's and 70's (see list below). The Bob Dylan interview is actually very interesting, especially when he starts talking Lennon/McCartney.Bob says, "Lennon, to this day, it's hard to find a singer better than Lennon was, or than McCartney was and still is. I'm in awe of McCartney. He's about the only one that I'm in awe of. He can do it all. And he's never let up. He's got the gift for melody, he's got the gift for rhythm, he can play any instrument. He can scream and shout as good as anyone, and he can sing a ballad as good as anyone. And his melodies are effortless, that's what you have to be in awe of.... he's just so damn effortless. I just wish he'd quit (laughs). Everything that comes out of his mouth is just framed in melody."

Well, what does it say when the MASTER calls you the BEST - gotta make Macca feel good. Macca getting rare praise from the Best of the Best while Heather appears on some "Dancing With the Stars" Garbage Show - Well, now we know for sure, there definitely is a God and there is Justice in this Universe....

The new ROLLING STONE is amazing, a solid read from cover to cover. Here's the interviews in order - DYLAN/JIMMY CARTER/McCARTNEY/RINGO/NORMAN MAILER/TOM WOLFE/BOB WEIR/PATTI SMITH/SPIELBERG/SCORSCESE/JANE FONDA/JACK NICHOLSON/BILL MOYERS/GEORGE McGOVERN/STEWART BRAND/MICHAEL MOORE/JAGGER/RICHARDS/JACKSON BROWNE/NEIL YOUNG. Also includes high praise (4 STARS) for the new NINE INCH NAILS "Year Zero" CD in the NEW MUSIC reviews section (yes, it IS a masterpiece - some of Trent's best work !!)

Dylan was likely being sarcastic. Macca is a lightweight bubble gum writer.

That is your opinion, just as that was Dylan's opinion.

But he's yet to play a McCartney song on his radio show. I chuckled when he played "Taxman" last week -- he introduced it as being written by George Harrison and recorded by "his band the Beatles".

I think it's a beautiful thing that Dylan says.

"...no longer shall you trudge 'cross my peaceful mind."

Dylan interview is online

It seems that some of the other interviews will be featured online over the next few weeks, so I guess Jagger and McCartney's will be too

I don't think he was being sarcastic.

I mean, he wasn't saying stuff like "Oh McCartney is writing his best stuff ever, better than the beatles etc..."

The stuff about melody and playing any instrument is true.

It's quite a suprising read. Rolling Stone is a respected mag and I don't think Dylan would go on record to say a load of stuff without meaning it and being genuine.

But then I'm no Bob Dylan expert.

Gazza...?

Since when? I guess you've never heard McCartney properly. You're taking it for granted. Typical. But anyway, Dylan is right...

You can't argue with Bob.

Always wonder why people want to trash Macca...he is a legend - full stop.

1) he's an ex-Beatle and some people still think its 1964.

2) he's perceived as a competitor and a lot of Stones fans for some reason get antsy at another artist selling a lot of tickets or making as much money

Cook of the house! Pure poetry and melody by Macca:

"Ground rice, sugar, vinegar, seco salt, macaroni too,
Cook of the house,
I`m the cook of the house.
No matter where I serve my guests,
They seem to like the kitchen best `cause I`m the cook of the house,
Cook of the house.

The salad`s in the bowl,
The rice is on the stove.
Green beans in the colander and where the res is heaven only knows.

Cinnamon, garlic, salt, pepper, corn-bread, curry powder, coffee too,
Cook of the house,
I`m the cook of the house.

No, matter where I serve my guests,
They seem to like the kitchen best.
`cause I`m the cook of the house,
Cook of the house.

Where the rest is heaven only knows.

Matter where I serve my guests,
They seem to like the kitchen best `cause I`m the cook of the house.
Cook of the house,
Cook of the house,
I`m the cook of the house."

There's plenty of room on the bus for all talented musicians - no need for competition.... here's a simple exercise - Stones are great/Macca is great, Italian food is great/Mexican food is great, Short girls with big boobs and hour glass figures are fun/tall girls with slim figures and smaller boobs are fun.... I find this formula works very well for many occasions......ALWAYS makes Great Grandma Skelter laugh SO HARD that she pops her colostomy bag - crazy lady !!!

Yeah, she's done a few porno's with it (suppliments her Social Security check). I know "Colostomy Bag" doesn't exactly scream SEXY but there is a small, very specific, fetish group that loves this sort of thing - Grandma's done a few DVD signings at adult film conventions. Her favorite is the Vegas one cause she loves all-you-can-eat buffets (her bag fills up like a giant water balloon - lol) Strange stuff but, you know, it takes all kinds....(she has some great stories about President William Taft 1909 - 1913, can't tell them here but she'd get ya laughin'fer sure - lol)...

Helter...I know it is going on a limb to actually attempt to discuss this with you as I see your retort to any difference of opinion is name calling ("snott")...but there is a lot of bubble gum in that list you put up. Even you can't think "Drive My Car" is a great song can you? That is pure bubble gum....a beep n beep beep ya...lol...just too funny.

I've always viewed the beat less as a pop group that later did nursery rhymes for grown-ups (see blackbird). Go ahead now...call me names...

Pure Jagger poetry, not a snitch better than Cook Of The House:

WHERE THE BOYS ALL GO
(M. Jagger/K. Richards)

Hey girls, you better listen to me
I'm getting starved for your company
All day Monday, and all day Tuesday
I played football, there's nothing on the telly
Now ever since I was just 13 years old
Well, I always felt shy but I acted so bold
I never had the money and I never had the class
But I always seemed to get myself a Saturday night piece of ass!

Where the boys go, Saturday night
Where the boys all go, hold me tight
Where the boys all go, Saturday night
Where the boys all go

Saturday morning you can see me at the pub
and I'm pissing away me money and I can't stand up
Cab fare, pop? You look silly in the road
Get in everybody, where the boys all go!

Hey! Never keep a secret from meeeee--eeeeeeee
Hey! Never keep a secret from yuuuuuuuuuwwwwwww
Hey! Never keep a secret from meeeeee-eeeeeee

Where the boys go, Saturday night
Where the boys go, hold me tight
Where the boys go, stand around and grope
Where the boys go, showing off their clothes
Where the boys go, down the disco!

Hey girls, what you doin' tonight?
Now do you want to dance, or do you want to bite?
Look here, darlin, I know the score
Paint your face, dye your hair, I'll see you round the back!

Where the boys go, Saturday night
Where the boys go, hold me tight
Where the boys go, Saturday night

Where the boys go, for a giggle and a lawff
Where the boys go, and a little piece of ass
Where the boys go, for a little piece of this
Where the boys go, for a little piece of that
Where the boys go, for a little piece of stick!
Where the boys go, for a little piece of @#$%&!

Anyone of those would do. There is a bunch of fluff on any of the Beatles "Classic" albums. There is nothing in Dylan's recorded work that indicates he would be a Beatles fan. Let alone Macca's solo stuff--and his insipid wives with their vegetarian frozen dinner lines and other hokey causes. Dylan is notoriously cagey in his interviews and saying he worships a cutey button like Paul(where is the great bass work--on "tax man" or "getting Better?") is obviously pulling people's chain.

Nothing wrong with the Beatles, nothing wrong with Duran Duran either. Just not Dylan's stuff.

San Diego, I'm not gonna call you names, I'm pretty sure we're on the same page on a lot of important issues. That list (this is for COME ON also) was just off the top of my head. I really didn't get into the Wings stuff. And I do agree, a lot of WINGS songs could have been great rockers (I've Had Enough, Old Siam Sir, Too Many People) with different arrangements - say if Lennon was around to balance Macca's lightness out. When he plays with his current band they really sound great cause they're young guys that want to rock. Macca needs to surround himself with strong rock people and STAY AWAY from the whole over production thing.

Oh, and LAZY-SLOB (great user name BTW) A good counter song to COOK OF THE HOUSE is SEX DRIVE on Flash Point - Live 89/90, another nothing throw away song......(or half of DIRTY WORK would be a good choice)..... Now that I re read WHERE THE BOYS GO that was a pretty damn good choice, never read the lyrics before.....
