As a Lifetime member of their fan club since the early 80's, it has allowed me 2 free tickets and 2 meet & greet passes for the show of my choice each and every tour...yes, they still honor it. The cost was $100.00, also included a tour jacket, hand signed 8x10, hand signed lithograph and other assorted goodies.
Anyhow, you could say that I am favorable towards everything they do...HOWEVER, the last few tours the set lists are too similar, set lengths get shorter, performance is at times boring. ZZ Has lots of warhorses and plays them, the other material that seems to make the set list are album tracks from their RCA Lable days of songs that were nothing more than album tracks...nothing special.
When RCA released their last studio album, ZZ went on tour 6 months before its release and played one song from it. When the album (CD) came out, the tour was over.
The band is under new management and out on the road again. Looking at their setlist so far, nothing has really changed to make the casual fan run to the box office.
There have been rumors for years that their live shows are smoothered in overdubs, backing tapes, taped vocals. I would agree for some songs.
If you have never seen them before...I would suggest going. If you would see them a second time, you may ask why.
This, keep in mind is coming from someone who only paid $100.00 back in 1983 to see well over a dozen shows. They are still one of my all time favorites, but, they are not quite what they used to be. If you ever want to see them on fire, look out for the 1980 German boot Video.
Oh, the meet & greets have happened...sometimes it would be a quick handshake in a receiving line after a show and sometimes the band would hang with us for a while, chat, pose for photos, sign your stuff.
