I wouldn't say it's BORING. Yes, there are superior version of most songs elsewhere, and if you want Stones Rock Power, Stripped does come in limping, a bit. But I do like it for what it is. The arrangements of the tunes are much less demanding on the band, and I like Mick's awesome snarl, which is completely absent on this disc.

However, it's a nice listen on a deck in the summer with friends, drinks and good food. It's a non-abrasive, family-friendly version of the Stones. There's no fire or danger, but it's a pleasant background disc when you need some Stones for BBQ season.

Many songs are better or just as good as the originals IMO.
SFM: The same, maybe an upper hand for the studio cut.
LARS: Just as good.
NFA: Just as good.
SAL: Better on Stripped.
TSATF: Better on Stripped.
I'm Free: Studio cut is way better.
WH: Just as good, maybe an upper hand for the Stripped version.
LIB: Way better on Stripped.
DF: Better on Stripped.
SA: Way better on Stripped.
Angie: Just as good, maybe an upper hand for the studio version.
LIV: Studio track is better.
SV: Just as good.
LB: Couldn't tell you 'cause I never heard the studio cut.

It's just a few seconds of Keith and Ronnie sitting down working out the bridge.

I do like the Stripped one better, actually.

No way. Not to my ears.

Where's the intro?

Not my favourite song anyways, but I agree.

Oh my GOD no.

> LIB: Way better on Stripped.

Okay, the whole mojo of the tune is GONE on stripped. No Jagger snarl, played too fast, the slide parts don't pull at you at all. The studio is dynamic fire - the Stripped version is a walkthrough. I've heard cover bands do much better. Passionless.

> DF: Better on Stripped.

See my above comment for LIB - Ditto, ditto and ditto.

> SA: Way better on Stripped.

I can't comment on a Keith song - especially one which DID feature Mick - but doesn't now!

> Angie: Just as good, maybe an upper hand for the

I prefer real strings to syths, and Mick's singing on the studio track to any live version I've heard (He only botheres to try on Disc 2 of Def. Brussels).

> LIV: Studio track is better.

And we all know that any version from 1971-1973 smokes any other version for tea. MT owned this - and the use of horns on it was a sweet dessert.

> SV: Just as good.

I like the Stripped version of this as much as Exile, yes.

> LB: Couldn't tell you 'cause I never heard the

It's because there isn't one. Do yourself a favour and check out the Wolf's version. LB is milktoast by the Stones. Didn't impress me one bit.

I think that the B-sides for Stripped were quite good. Black limousine and All Down the Line were great, great versions. And I don't need to even mention the awesomeness of the Wild Horses tracks. Funny how the put GS & LWM on No Security so soon after. I perfer the 1995 Shleter to the 1998., but not so with LWM.

I think that TD is the best Ronnie Wood era Dice ever.

Stripped and SC are both great.

Mez provided me with a couple of more volumes "Stripped and Naked", etc. Good, but not quite to the level of the first 2.

What's on "Stripped and Naked"?

A live "Brand New Car" among others. Haven't got it with me - lots of Mick and Keith solo "live". Some solo Mick outtakes. Quality of recording varies.

E-mail me and when I get home, I'll send the track list.

I like Stripped a lot. Mabye my 3rd favorite stones official release live album. I almost never play the classic slow songs (angie, Wild horses) from stadium or area shows post 1975. Either Micks singing or the bands playing cant come close to the power of the originals but Stripped has a really good feel to it as well as a some gems- Little baby, Spider and the fly. Should have been a double!!

Yeah, cat, I prefer the Stripped versions of Angie and WH to the studio or other live versions.

This would be great—or even a piano bar setting—I love Keith's nearness of you from the voodoo outtakes.

The Wild Horses version on Stripped is the best ever. Far better than the studio, in my opinion!
I just love the whole album, not boring at all!

I'll probably get clubbed for saying this, but...

I think Chuck plays very nicely on Stripped, adds a lot to several of the tunes.

For me...as if anyone cares,
the best songs on Stripped are
Shine A Light, The Spider & The Fly, Little Baby and Street Fighting Man

Why would you get clubbed for saying this?
Is complementing Chuck not allowed by the lynching villagers?

I think the reason I like Stripped so much is that I love the slower ballad side of the Stones. I was thinking the other day about some of my favorite Stones songs and they are all on the slow side. No Expectations,Memory Motel,You Got The Silver,Wild Horses,Angie. All slower songs. This is not to say that I don't love to hear that crunching live guitar sound. But studio wise I like the slower stones better, and ever since Ya Ya's. Their is not a lot of good live rockin Stones stuff. At least officially.

charmed, I made a homemade CD of just Stones ballads and called it "Slow Rollers". It is the world's best CD.

A thought on the girls above - kinda confused on the peace/piece/Bush/bush/pussy issue! winking smiley

I like the "No peace,No pussy" a lot better than "Give Peace a Chance" though! Now there's a bed-in song.

The intro is on the studio cut but not this one. It's a different version mind you.

Joe Robbie Stadium 1994. Check it out dude.

I love this acoustic version. Very different, but if I had to choose it would be the MT version. From 1969 though.

Again: I meant the orginal artist's recording of the song. Do I really suck that much at English?

No, I just think Mick's singing is better on the studio version, as is the keyboard arrangment, JM's little drum fills, and MT's solo. All and all, they get an A for effort on Stripped - but better than the Exile version - that's pushing it for me.

Again, A for effort. I just prefer Mick's younger voice and the solo on the original. Plus on the original, the absence of drums during the verses make them crashing in during the chorus more dramatic. Also, what's with "after love dies" instead of "after, we'll die" (I know they've done this since at least '75)?

I have it. Maybe you don't know what I'm talking about? The notes he hits during the "Come on baby dry your eyes" etc. Mick doesn't hit these notes.

One thing I must say - they left the best stuff for the b-sides. I absolutely LOVE all 5 of those tracks.

i really like this album; not the lars single much, but the rest of it was really refreshing and they felt re-newed and really present to me...
that general 'voodoo period' was a real good one imo; often thinking VDL, (all things considered) the best of their latter day releases...and this one too...ultimately found it very humanizing, powerful...most excellent...(as they always are when they 'shake things up' a bit from the usual de riguer routine etc...won't go thru it track by track 4 comparative analysis, not all that informed 'bout the various versions, but this record always a warm and shining achievement imo. warm, (in the best way) relaxed and powerful...

Re: Stripped.

It's not, by any means, a bad record. And yes, I do like to throw it on - it's got a lot of songs that, in one collection, provide a consistent mood. It's perfect BBQ, beer and buddies music.

Re: Stripped.
Posted by: frankie ()
Date: March 31, 2007 19:10

This could have been their best live album but somehow they were able to mix any emotion out of this record, the audience cheering is almost completely faded out so no live feel. Offcourse with the studio songs on it that's impossible but if you take a good listen to the songs on the stripped dvd, and compare the same songs then you'll know what I mean,. So what I'm trying to say is that they should have mixed the live parts of stripped like they did the mixing for the stripped tv special.

Re: Stripped.

I don't like any of the Stripped versions as much as the originals or earlier live versions - the songs on Stripped are likeable but lack staying power - they are also too clean. Jagger's vocals were much better when he was younger particuarly on Wild Horses.
