Pink rolling papers? Your ruining that macho southern image of yours. But I might check out the show myself. Just to see The Outlaws.

charmed, you remember the old pink, strawberry-flavored E-Z Widers, don't ya?

Popular in the early to mid 70's - before we realized the paper wasn't what you wanted to smoke and a pink cigarette tipped off the man!

Now, Joker 1.5 (or 1.25) rules. Nice thin rice paper. Combines 2 food groups - vegetable and herb! winking smiley

Oh yeah. Now it's all coming back to me. Those big ass strawberry rolling papers. But hey at least we didn't snort our father's. LOL

My totally worthless 2 cents...what a talented, talented, underrated group of individuals.
at times I can hear stevie ray
for fun --gimme three steps
never get tired of freebird...hear something new every time I listen
majority of recordings composed amongst themselves.
blues medley is awesome.
Love em

Not like they're completely under-rated. They have sold 50 million albums/CDs worldwide.

Glad you love 'em. They deserve it. We lost some great future music with the plane crash. The original band was really on their way in 1977 in terms of being major stars.

And Ronnie was getting ready to do a solo album that would have been really something. He got tired of Free Bird.

Induct Skynyrd!" - A Legendary Hall Of Fame Injustice
By Ross Warner
November 29, 2004

"The words just flew out of my mouth" I was inside the Theater At Madison Square Garden for the 4th annual Jammy Awards when I issued my not-so-subtle plea. A representative of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame was approaching the stage and I couldn’t keep the injustice of Lynyrd Skynyrd’s absence from the Hall of Fame to myself any longer. It’s not like the balloting for Cooperstown. Indiscretions and sorted vices cannot thwart an artist’s admittance. In rock and roll, those things are not just accepted, but expected. But just as is the case in the world of sports, enshrinement is not simply a testament to the longevity of one’s career. It serves as permanent evidence of the artist’s impact and a measure of their legacy. Since they became eligible in 1999 Lynyrd Skynyrd has been nominated for admission and has come up short.

Lip thanks for the link. Stonesrule,as awlays thanks for your insight and personal storys. You are right about the band ready to move on to a different direction. If you dig deep on Street Survivors, there's a song called I Never Dreamed. Which I absolutely love and has a writing credit of R.Van Zandt and S.Gaines. As I mentioned earlier I also really loved Steve Gaines song Aint No Good Life on that album. Stonesrule if you can tell us anything else about those two songs or Street Survivors in general. It would be greatly appreciated.

A lot to say. Just a bit for now.

I was in the studio with Skynyrd in the summer of 77. Ronnie was happy with the album and happy with Steve, a really nice guy and a breath of fresh air as some of the other boys had various problems. Think "That Smell"

Ronnie had a bunch of side to his writing, which has never gotten as much credit as it deserves. It became more sophisticated as they traveled the world. "I Never Dreamed" would be in that vein. "One More Time" would be another. At first RVZ didn't seem to have that much of a sense of humor but as he got older and smarter, he would dryly make some quite brilliant comments when least expected. I would put "What's Your Name" a bit in that category.

The writing meant the world to Ronnie. Much as it does to Mick. Both very intelligent people who know how to use words in a variety of ways.

Another nugget. Ronnie's original and favorite title for the album that was released as "Street Survivors" was "Hell Bent for Leather"

Oh, most certainly you are allowed to say whatever you wish. How did you become so cosmopolitan and enlightened considering you were raised around so many hicks?

Thanks Button re above website.

Haven't seen this version in awhie. Always difficult to watch but now I have it online, thanks to you.

A nugget...one of the best versions of Free Bird after the crash was on New Year's Eve at the Omni arena in Atlanta December 1980.

This was broadcast worldwide on the Armed Forces website so there should be some boots out there.

It started with a four minute classical type intro by Billy Powell on piano. No one was sure what this music was...Then on a film screen audience saw an eagle high in the sky. They began to go wild as the eagle soared majestically through the air.

Slowly the band began to play. NO vocal. Allen, Gary and Barry Harwood were on guitars and Allen ws on top of it every second, pushing the other two hard.

It was some 15 minutes in length and glorious. 20,000 people overwhelmed.

I hope no one judges the present day version of Lynyrd Skynyrd by how it used to be.

stonesrule, that's Rossington-Collins band, right? Saw 'em in Macon right after the release of Anytime, Anyplace, Anywhere.

My friend was caught smoking/toking and thrown out right as the band played "Sometimes You Can Put It Out And It Don't Do Ya No Good". Truer words were never spoken.
