Why bother? Mick is not commerically viable as a solo act even though I really enjoyed the last 2 solo outings. Its clear he has more artisticly motivated than Keith over the past 15 years. I would rather see him put the use of his songs for a new stones album. I truly wish some great songs like EVENING GOWN, DONT CALL ME UP, PARTY DOLL and a few others dominated stones albums.

...maybe Keith is working on a new solo album too....
So Jagger is recording. Keith seems to be recording soon... The bad thing is: if they joined their forces we would have new Rolling Stones album. But the good thing is: instead of one Stones album we will have two Stones-related albums. Don't know really which option is better.
Didn't see that one coming, but it makes good sense I guess. The timing is especially interesting. Might be Mick's way of reminding the world that the tour might be over, but he's still there. Or to exploit whatever coattails the Stones tour might offer to maximize album sales. I'd be curious to know if he went with the solo option from the start or whether the other band members may have turned down the offer of working on a new album. Not that either would be all that surpising...
I can't imagine he's done more than home demos on ProTools without some word leaking out about musicians, producers, collaboraters, etc.
Backstage at the Hall of Fame, Keith was asked about the Winos. He gave his usual line about the guys calling him up, we'll see like he has for the past 12 years. Keith was also asked about a new solo album, he said he likes to plan ahead like knowing what he'll do tomorrow. You can watch Keith in the all star jam and the backstage interviews on youtube. He's in good form, looks healthy, and spoke clearer than normal...but there was nothing to indicate he has solo album plans.
I trust BV is reporting what he heard about Mick, but if nothing is substantiated soon regarding who, where, when I'll be chalking this off as a rumor or else Mick is only slowly developing songs like he did in 1999 and 2000 with plans to record at a later date.
I wonder what direction he'll take this time - another Wandering Spirit? (Fingers crossed) - maybe he'll FINALLY tour solo in North America - playing Blues Festivals like he did in the early 90s...
How @#$%ing awesome would that be??? Who says he necessarily needs the baggage of the Stones to prove his awesomeness? I'm starting to think that what he said about playing with the Stones in the mid 80's holds truer now than it did then. He can't be a Stone all the time, it clearly doesn't do him any justice as an artist anymore (whether this fact is by his own design or not).
Great news although my expectations aren't high after Godess In The Doorway (Sucks the big one). He should rather do another album with the Stones IMO. Why can't he get that virtually nobody cares about his solo works?

Bumping this question. Anybody know? Was the Stones-Virgin deal inclusive of solo works?
Good news. Will be interesting to see if MJ goes back to a more Stones-ish sound (like WS) or for something more his own (like GITD). I liked both, although hope he steers clear of any dance stuff.
I welcome it with open arms. I'm sure it'll be great. GITD wasn't ALL dance, btw. Whether or not it was your taste, a HELL of a lot more affort went into it thatn ABB - the Stones hold Jagger back in the studio, and have been since Voodoo Lounge. (As much as I dislike Steel Wheels, I think it was an honest effort with great playing by the band - just boring songs for the most part.)

Oh I agree! In fact I don't think it has much dance stuff at all. All I was saying is I hope Mick keeps it that way. Have never liked his dance-oriented stuff solo or with the Stones.
I think you're exactly right about the amount of studio work on Goddess. While I can see why Stones fans might not like that disc, I liked the fact that MJ was stretching out a little bit.
My arms are also wide open. A solo disc is better than nothing.
Jagger solo albums are always fun to check out. I agree WS was his best. I like a few songs off of GITD and Alfie too, and even though a lot of Mick's solo material is fluff, I still enjoy hearing his voice on a bunch of fresh songs.
Let's keep our fingers crossed for a Keith album sometime soon too. That would be a delight. He's due.
