It would be nice if some major name bands were on the bill as well. Festivals used to be about a power lineup. Not a bunch of fluff club bands.

Most of those acts mentioned in that story are huge in the UK, and Muse have managed to fill Wembley Stadium for two nights, so I'd say that as far as a festival bill is concerned, thats a "power line up"

YES!!! Whoopee!!

Now all I have to do is worry about the practical details (I've got a non-camping ticket since I haven't slept in a tent for about 35 years and don't intend to start now). B&B on the mainland and a daily trip on the ferry, I think.

Ah ... how truly refreshing it is to find another tent HATER among us, and I believe she's a SW Londoner too.

Correct, it won't be their first show in Russia.
But maybe their first show in some other former Soviet country?

The first reliable source of a return. Lets hope they make a show like Knebworth 76!?!

This is old (28th Feb), but mentions the Stones as being rumoured to headline the Sunday. Lets hope.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------

If you haven't got your ticket for the Isle of Wight Festival already you could be very sorry.

Tickets for this summer's festival only went on last on Thursday and it has sold out in record time. Now in its sixth year since it was revived, the festival has sold out faster than ever before, with all 50,000 tickets being snapped up within days. This year's festival line-up boasts the best of British.

It includes headline performances from the biggest-selling band of 2006, Snow Patrol, and winners of the Brit Award for Best Live Act, Muse.

Also on the line-up are Best British Female Brit Award winner Amy Winehouse, Best British Male Brit Award winner James Morrison and Best British Breakthrough Brit Award winners The Fratellis, as well as Kasabian, Keane, Ash and some hot newcomers in the form of Paolo Nutini, Wolfmother, and The Feeling.

The headline act for Sunday has not yet been announced although speculation has been rife that it will be the Rolling Stones.

In recent years big name acts to play at the festival have included REM, Coldplay, The Who, Foo Fighters and The Prodigy.

The festival was revived in 2002 - the last of original festivals took place in 1970, when 600,000 hippies descended on the Island to see Jimi Hendrix perform what would be his penultimate concert.

The early Isle of Wight Festivals featured legendary line-ups. As well as Hendrix, artists such as Bob Dylan, The Who, The Doors and Joni Mitchell took to the stage.

Since it was relaunched in 2002 it has become more and more popular and able to attract increasingly big-name artists - so it's no surprise that everyone is talking about who Sunday's unnamed headliners will be.

The festival takes place over three days from June 8 at Seaclose Park in Newport.

Am new to this site, but i am surprised at the general attitude of "stones fans" posts. All of you seem happy about the stones being at a festival, but i don’t mean to be rude but you all seem soooooo boring.
I thought it’s meant to be rock and roll yet you’re scared of sleeping in a tent. I can just see it now at the stones stadium gigs all nicely sat in your designated seats with a warm hot chocolate and a cushion for comfort!

Come on you guys give the whole festival experience one more go! Most of you seem to of given up and are happy watching in a mild manner! The Stones are going to blow the Isle of Wight away and i want everyone to be involved so come on people!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Last time I slept in a tent (with a bunch of student friends in Wales) I didn't sleep very much. It was a brilliant sunny day so I'd got a hefty dose of sunburn to keep me awake, followed by a pouring wet night when our borrowed tent leaked like a sieve. By the morning nobody had a dry stitch to stand up in. Never again!

you obviously ARE new. Pretty much all of the people youre addressing your remark to went overseas to see the band last year because they preferred the general admission option to the seated one which was enforced for the UK shows.

and who says theyre 'scared' of a tent? Get real.

what's more rock n roll than staying in - and trashing - a hotel room?

Well i will wait and see gazza, but there is a lot of moaning about the tent situation and it just sounds like a group of moaning old people waiting for a bus!

I think the Stones will love being at a festival a whole new crowd to play to (with the majority not knowing that much about the stones) and i think the crowd will love them!

And i salute those stones fans that have got a ticket and willing to give the whole experience a go! You won’t be disappointed iow fest is just phenomenal!

i'm not a fan of festivals because of all the bands you have to sit through to see the one you want plus the one you want usually don't play a full set...

do you think the stones will play a full, 2-hour long set???

Thats the whole point of a festival, you not only get to see the band you want to see but also get to see new bands and enjoy other forms of music. And if you're not enjoying the main stage then there is tones to do elsewhere at the festival, just enjoy yourself and enjoy the music thats what iow festival is all about.

Well in my many years of going to festival no headliner has ever had 2 hours longest is around 1.15/1.30 but then the stones are not your average headliner so they could well have a full 2 hours.

Feel free to ask anything on here about the festival or the isle of wight itself and i will try to help you out the best i can.

Is there a large industrial strength incinerator on the Isle of Wight that could be used for the wholesale disposal of tents ?

Look. The last time I slept in a tent was in Scotland when I was 14, and I woke up the next day, switched on the radio and heard Elvis had died.

I have had a negative attitude to camping ever since!

I will let you off for that reason, spose you are mentaly scared after such a trumatic experince.

Newport is around a 10min walk away with many different hotels, b&b's etc so try to get in somewhere there but be quick! If not try ryde but thats a bus journey every day (around 15mins)

Also correct. But I was thinking of other countries, not in the Baltic region.

Yeah, but all that nylon still sure burns well when you shove it into an incinerator !

Both St Petersburg and Moscow is Russia as far as I know. The fact that they claim it is the first show in Russia doesn't worry me that much. May be they got it from some P.R. person that did not do their home work. Or may be they are just creative and don't know every little detail like you and me.

Fact 1 : They will be at IOW
Fact 2 : It is sold out
Fact 3 : Bring a tent
Fact 4 : It will be a great show
