Yeah. They did it with the house band instead of with Velvet Revolver. Really did suck.

van halen is the most disfunctional band in history without a doubt- i mean who coudl go through 3 lead singers in 4 years ( hagar 95 tour, roth 96 "reunion", cherone in 98)

Apropos, of the most dysfunctional band in the world, they had the two guys are NO LONGER in the band play. Pefect, in a trainwreck kind of way.

OK, let's be serious for a second. I have a question.

Is there one single thing that Van Halen ever did that warrants anyone caring who shows up where or who's in rehab or who's had hair transplants?

I mean, I know they have to induct someone into Cleveland's best tourist attraction every year, but what exactly is Van Halen's true significance?

Just a bigger, dumber, flashier sound for 20,000 seat joints, right? Something along the lines of Monster Truck shows.

Ok, now that I stopped laughing (monster truck shows - that WAS effing funny) the Roth AND Sammy VH have some great songs. Only saw them live in concert once with Roth way back but they have some good songs on all their albums.....There is TALENT there, No DOUBT about that.....

Helter:

Glad that was worth a laugh.

And I'm laughing right now as I reflect on the fact that the only VH tune that has ever given me any enjoyment whatsoever is "Hot For Teacher"--primarily in its video form.

I gotta hand it to the fellas; as a loud, stupid, hormonal boogie, "Hot For Teacher" meets many of the criteria for perfect rock'n roll. (It don't hurt much that I was fourteen when the record came out and therefore squarely in its target demographic.)

But Hall of Fame material? I guess I just can't figure it...

Sucks the band didn't show up, but then again Bill and Charlie didn't bother to show up in 89. Good list danielb.
Another band that went through alot of singers in a short period is Deep Purple. Went from Rod Evans (Hush) to Ian Gillan (Smoke on the Water) to David Coverdale (Burn) within a short time frame.

Would agree totally. I would also add The full bug and I'll wait (the only synthy ballad I ever liked)

I'd even add in "Summer Nights" from the Van Hagar years.

Van Halen cooked back in the David Lee Roth days...I saw them twice.....and I gotta say, some of the finest women I've ever seen gathered in one place were at Van Halen concerts....it was always a party when Van Halen was in town....always.

Yeah Luckester, damn right, they're a party band, no deep stuff here or complicated Emerson. Lake, and Palmer mind benders. But that's alright, the chicks WERE hot and that be enough for me. HOT BABES, COLD BEER, and COMFY SHOES.......Crank up the VH cd's and party on you disfunctional MFer's !!!! (the band Luke, not us)....DANCE THE NIGHT AWAY.....

Cool drum sound by Alex to start "Hot For Teacher" - almost Harley-like!
