Come on Stoned, you're a cool dude and we agree on a lot but REM has some A -1 songs, they really had a good period till the drummer left and lately have kind of lost direction....

One last point about the Dave Clark 5. A friend just reminded me that they starred in TWO movies. Is it the Hall of Fame or the Hall of what is now considered cool by people who weren't there when it was happening?

for keith64 especially...and anyone interested:
catch us if you can starring dave clark 5:
**(directed by John Boorman!!!!)**

reelin' and a'rockin', rockin' and a' rollin..."

_________________________________

from wiki:
""Catch Us If You Can (1965) (released with the title Having a Wild Weekend in the U.S.) was the feature-film debut of director John Boorman. Ostensibly designed as a vehicle for pop band The Dave Clark Five, whose popularity at the time rivaled that of The Beatles, this strangely downbeat film actually departs in various ways from the formula created by Richard Lester in A Hard Day's Night, and by Sidney J. Furie and Peter Yates with the Cliff Richard films.

Although they perform the off-screen soundtrack music, The Dave Clark Five (unlike The Beatles) do not play themselves, but appear to be a team of freelance stuntmen/extras, led by the saturnine Steve (Dave Clark). Clark had worked as a stuntman on a number of films, providing him with experience and camera-sense that the The Beatles would have lacked in A Hard Day's Night.

Far from being a conventional pop vehicle, this serious, thought-provoking film concerns itself with the frailty of personal relationships, the flimsiness of dreams, and the difficulty of maintaining spontaneity and integrity in a stage-managed "society of the spectacle." (That such a message is articulated through one of the very mass media that have created this society is just one of several ironies.) Boorman, an established documentarist and veteran of TV commercials, already displays great technical skill in this early film. This debut offering is particularly compelling (it drew favourable notices from Pauline Kael and Dilys Powell), not least because of the enormous cultural energy of the time (mid-60s) in which the film was made.

The title song "Catch Us If You Can" is credited as co-written by the band leader/drummer, Dave Clark, and the lead guitar player, Lenny Davidson. [1]""

It is amazing what a little rest can do for someone -- he looks F)^&*N GREAT!

Now, they can get back on the road with a SANE schedule (for 50-60 -year olds) so they avoid Mick's throat problems and Keith walking around like a zombie up there. As I read Chuck's diary, it sounds like Japan was perfect for them -- 5 shows in 2 1/2 weeks, and they stayed at one hotel, so that they were rested and relaxed the whole time. They looked great at all of the shows. I wonder if they can swing something similar in Europe to minimize the need to move around all the time. I travel a lot for work, have been doing it for the past 25 years, and even though I travel in business class, I look and feel like crap most of the time I'm on the road. It just wreaks havoc on your body.

Take it easy boys, don't overdo it -- and no climbing trees!

in reflection today i was thinking that for me the most powerful moment of last nights broadcast (aside from the james brown clips and the ronnettes film clip...and keith of course)...
...was the old clip they played where the remnants of the willbury's sans dylan were doing 'guitar gently weeps'...dhani harrison on the stage...playing acoustic and singing harmonies...a little behind the front line...his young georgeish face pretty stolid and workmanlike...UNTIL it's Prince's turn for a solo...harrison's face lights up like xmas...he smiles so brightly...prince tears the shite out of a solo...at one point turning his back on the audience and running right up directly to a delighted young harrison's face...who was beaming and all big smiles...really getting off on it...that was such a cool moment...i guess he grew up around petty and orbison and dylan and all the other biggest rock heavies...he didn't seem overly impressed or anything...
until prince took over...that was a cool thing to observe...

OK, it must have been someone who was joking about it.
But maybe they'll let him in one day.

Yeah I saw that clip. Prince was great. That was the best part of the show. All the clips they played between acts. Espicially,Led Zeppelin w/Neil Young.

Beelboy, I agree, that Prince solo was wonderful.
Maybe Harrison was more familiar with the other guys' talents since he
had worked with them in the Wilburys.
