Roxy Music
New York Dolls
J. Geils Band
Faces

But they'll never get in. It's all a ridiculous sham now because they will only induct acts that will bring in ratings to the VH1 telecast. Why do you think they're inducting Van Halen? If it was only Patti Smith, R.E.M. and the Ronettes, no one would watch the telecast. Plus they want to get younger visitors into the museum. It has absolutely no merit whatsoever any more.

I read an article yesterday that said that Patti Smith is the last Seventies punk act that will be inducted because that era of artists is "too old" and from now on the inductees will be mostly rap acts to appeal to the 12 to 34-year-old demographic that the advertisers want. It's about the advertisers now and which acts can bring in the most teens and twenty-year-old viewers and museum attendees to sell their soft-drinks and video games to. They don't care about merit or influence any more and they certainly don't care about what anyone over 35 thinks or wants.

What a shame. Too bad there can't be a REAL Rock 'N Roll Hall of Fame like other Hall-Of-Fames that is actually is based on merit and not advertisers. And a separate Rap and Hip-Hop Hall of Fame. They are--for the most part--completely different types of music, but I'm sure that would be considered racist...even with Chuck Berry, Aretha, Otis, Sam Cooke, James Brown, Al Green, etc., etc., etc. in the Rock 'N Roll Hall of Fame where they should be. They aren't rap or hip-hop artists, they are truly talented ARTISTS, not button-pushers.

It's absolutely irrelevent now, just like the Billboard Charts, radio, 'Rolling Stone' magazine, MTV and VH1. It's all about the MONEY.

the thing with the HOF is that it celebrates the music and those who greatly influenced it (not exclusivly ROCK, but things that helped rock become what it is)

IE - I don't think Jethro Tull should ever be in.
WHY? Because while they may have some fans (I am NOT one of them, I find this flute playing hack to be boring) I have never heard anyone say Tull influenced them in any way (except to turn the radio off)
They had a few hits in thier day, but no reason to be celebrated in the HOF

KISS in the other hand (also not a big fan, I have enjoyed them before but I don't get giddy when these tired dinosours tour) BUT KISS have inluenced a ton of bands. no real hits, BUT a TON of influence.

I looked at the entire list of indutees so far and I gotta say that there is no one in there that does not deserve it. Several names I resent because I hate the music so much (Billy Joel, Grateful Dead, Jackson Browne)but they have earned their spot in there. So I don't think one can question the validity of the place. Of course some people hate awards period. But it is really not a open competition. Like I don't feel like someone else is losing when someone gets inducted. Of course there are names that deserve to be in there that have not made it yet, but I trust everyone's time will come.
I do hope they keep it pure and keep it a rock'n roll hall of fame. There are still many rockers that should be in there. It doesn't matter what "the kids are into nowadays". I thought the HOF wasn't about that. Most of the inductees are either dead or done.

No - The Beatles paved the way for the Stones. With an impact as huge as that that they didnt really NEED the DC5

As long as they keep it a ROCK Hall of Fame, I still think everyone will get his due. What does sound worrisome is where I just read that from now on it's going to be all Hip Hop artists, because that is what the kids listen to today.

Gazza, my point was that the Beatles alone could have been viewed as a unique phenominum and not created a wide open door to America for any and all British bands if the Glad All Over had not followed within weeks of their Sullivan appearance. After the DC5 and Gerry and the Pacemakers, America was ready for the rougher style of the Animals and the Stones. I was 17 at the time and know how things were in this country. The DC5 had 4 top 10 US in '64 and out drew the Stones in my hometown in '65. What did Patti Smith ever have except a Keith Richards haircut and industry backing? Horses? What was that? The H.O.F.is a joke.

Yeah I felt the same way when Earth Wind & Fire got in. They are the Led Zeppelin of soul. But they ain't rock.

would be great to see the ronnettes and keith...ty.

i'm on THIS link...and it just tells me something's 'loading' not sure if i'm in the right link...ty

Yeah he actually completed whole sentences strung together. Which many did not think possible. Plus he fired up a smoke while giving his speech. Classic.

Keith has a MOUSTACHE? @#$%& hell!

Suffice to say, no luck with my stakeout, unless Jann Wenner, Susan Sarandon, and some SNL cast members count.
