They are doing it early this year for some reason. You lose an hour and to add insult to injury you lose another ten minutes walking around your house changing all your clocks.

Everybody knows by now that this time change is rubbish. No effect on saving energy, no longer barbecues for those who have to get up as early as ever.
Those guys in Greenwich once looked in the sky, found the sun on its height and defined: Now, it's high noon. And as this planet moves around the sun, in an hour it'll be 1 p.m. in London and high noon in Berlin and so on. That was science, a matter of fact.
Now, it's seven month a year Summer Time.

Why is it that in North America you are doing it two weeks before us in the U.K (and europe I presume) ? Does anyone know?

I know in the past it has been done on different days as well.

O, man, this messes everything up now when one once & for all
have learned all the zones over there....

So instead of 6 hours after us, Elmo will now - the following fortnite -

I don't know what the reason is for starting it so early this year.......and it is going to last longer, as well. I'm sure we've been told it conserves energy but all I know is it's gonna be dark again in the mornings when I wake up....grrr......

I remember in the 70's, during the "energy crisis"... Nixon was president...
They institued year-round daylight savings time in the USA, as a way of saving energy.
We kids ended up waiting for the school bus in the dark at 7:30 in the morning.

They repealed the year-round DST a short time later. The safety of little kids on the way to school was part of the reason for the legislation's repeal.

Ok, cool..... thought so. Apparently, others (skyhawk) interpret it to be how the USA does whatever it wants and then simply hordes it over eveyone else, including, quite apparently, the country in which he/she resides.

Canada is springing forward with the US because it would cause total chaos if we didn't! Financial markets, airlines, etc. would be out of sync for three weeks.
Whether springing forward earlier will actually save energy overall is debatable. I actually don't mind since it will be light out later.

Re: Daylight savings time - I don't know about energy savings (hope so), but it's really nice to have an extra hour of daylight.

Instead of bitching about the US, why doesn't your country try this? Oooops, sorry, another pushy American, I guess.

Today in LA it was 91 degrees. I know I shouldn't complain, but I don't have air conditioning so this kinda sucks.

and it's the result of legislation based on a 30 YEAR OLD STUDY that has absolutely no bearing on modern practices. Experts say there will be NO SAVINGS to be gained by corporate america, for whom the legislation (as part of the 2005 Energy Bill) was enacted. Meanwhile, that same corporate world has spent an estimated $15 Billion to remediate the millions of computer systems that this idiotic policy required. I know well - it's been my job for the past 3 months to oversee that remediation for the Fortune 400 financial services firm I work for.

Maybe if a one hr change results in that kind of upheaval--the "computer systems" are not that great, after all

Besides, this sounds more like the work of congress, for whom "great policies" are also in "short supply".

Even though I warned her on Sunday night...

that it would difficult for her
to get up on Monday morning at 6:45 am for school
unless she went to bed early on Sunday night (HA!)
(because her body would still feel like it's 5:45 am),

but she still wouldn't/couldn't get out of bed on time
so she's late for school

which I expected might happen because of this daylight savings time thing
She probably won't be the only kid who's late

StonesTod, maybe you should be at the exaggeration thread. Even my cheap ass computer automatically changed itself.

If you hate Bush, fine, but don't act like this was some grand plot (ala Y2K) to benefit corporate America.

StonesTod-This act was passed by Congress approximately 3 years ago. Bush had nothing to do with it. I'm glad it lasts until November now so the kids have an extra hour of daylight for Halloween. I always thought it was the dumbest thing to move time back just before Halloween.
