But Syd Barret the mega-star? He's a mega-myth for sure, but they weren't that big when he got the boot, were they?
There's only 1 full Syd Album, and it's interesting for sure. But by the time they 'didn't pick him up for a gig' - weren't the band still merely London Underground Heroes, not were mega stars yet? Wasn't Syd's career toast; well-over before they even scored their first cheap art-house film (More).
I mean, how many Syd Barret songs does the casual rock fan know? Of the few pre Dark Side songs that are known, how mnay are Syd's? How many Syd Barret songs hit the airwaves on classic rock radio?
To me, it seems that Roger got the 'Syd Guilts' once they did hit it BIG years later with Dark Side, and they did Wish You Were Here - crystalizing the Syd Myth forever.
