I like that the band felt so strongly about the song that they featured it throughout the 70s. Though they often played it too fast, I think. The riff sounds kind of silly if it doesn't hang back a bit.

But I think I prefer the studio cut. It manages to sound excited and exhausted at the same time. mick's vocals are tremendous.

I've read somewhere that the reason why it was supposed to be the first single was simply it was the first song off the album they finished mixing.

For me the best live versions are those from the Australia '73 Tour
