If I have understood good Erik Snow's instructions, you should see a picture of George Harrison's hofner with a comment about it written by him.

The first thing I thought when I read the lines of George! Do we know whether the Beatles were on the bill the same night? The blue strats, the Vox amps -it looks like a Beatles set up.

>> Do we know whether the Beatles were on the bill the same night? <<

i don't know, but i don't think the Stones and the Beatles would both be on the same Ready Steady Go -
and if George and John didn't use them until Nowhere Man - that was around 66, no?
this RSG was in 64. and we have that shot of Keith actually using one of these Strats at a gig
a few weeks after this RSG, so it seems they really were the Stones' Strats, at least for a while.
but i quite like the idea of Keith and Brian selling them to George and John!
were there a lot of pairs of matching pale blue Strats with roseword fretboards around?
i guess there could have been, but ... at the very least, it's intriguing!

I wonder which would be considered more valuable -- the Gretsch Duo Jet, the Rickenbacker 12-string, or the Magical Mystery Tour strat?

All seven figures, I am sure, but which would you want? I would pick the Ricky.

one theory i've had for a while about the Stones' pale blue Strats
is that Fender gave them to them on the first US tour, as a promo deal (hence their presence on that TV stage).
maybe George and John got them too - maybe Fender enjoyed handing out pairs of pale blue Strats
to British Invasion bands? (maybe George didn't literally mean they bought them, just that they got them.)
maybe George and John had them around awhile before using them on Nowhere Man,
just like the Stones didn't have much use for Fenders at first ...
or maybe they really were the Stones' Strats and they later sold them to the Beatles. that would be charming!

i know idle speculation won't get me any closer to the real story of these Strats,
but i can't help it - i'm so intrigued!

My copy of The Beatles Gear is packed away as I'm in the middle of moving,
but here's what I remember about the pale-blue Strats.
They were bought by Mal Evans for John and George in early 1965
around the time of Ticket To Ride and Help!.
It's possible they were used on the Help! LP.
The Strat was certainly George's main guitar for Rubber Soul.
He also used a Gibson ES335-TD on the Beatles Winter UK tour.
It's possible he used this for some Rubber Soul tracks,
but also it may have belonged to one of the Moody Blues (suport act)
as one of HArrison's Gretsch guitars fell out of the boot of a car
and was smashed to bits on the way to a gig. INdeed, no mention
has been made of this guitar since then.
The blue Strat in the above Stones photo does not belong to a Beatle.
I believe the only gig/TV show both groups were together was
at the NME Poll Winners Show in 1966.
What a linup! And no one taped it!
JUst like no one taped any of the Beck/Page Yardbirds shows.

>> [The Beatles' pale blue Strats] were bought by Mal Evans for John and George in early 1965 <<

cool - thanks TomK! have a good smooth move.

>> The blue Strat in the above Stones photo does not belong to a Beatle. <<

lest it go overlooked: there are two blue Strats on that RSG stage with the Stones -
one in front of the amps, one behind them.
i guess the book doesn't mention who Mal Evans bought the Strats from?
the plot thickens!
no no i mean: have some popcorn. :E
