Just to correct your post, Jerry Lee Lewis only wrote two songs that I know of:Lewis Boogie and End of The Road. The Everly Bros. didn't write their songs [except When Will I Be Loved],and the majority of pre-Beatle rock hits weren't written by the singers but by professional songwriters. Even the Stones didn't write most the songs on their early albums. The abillity of the Beatles, Dylan, and later, the Stones, to be both writers and perfomers created a standard in the business that few have been able to duplicate [at least since the sixties]. I haven't heard a good song in so long I can't remember. Maybe it's time to go back to the old way of making records. Writers, musicians, singers and producers working seperatly with the goal of creating a good sounding record.

Even if you strip away the whole social and global phenomenon that was/is "The Beatles", the music still stands up for itself, and like them or not, all of our lives would have been so much poorer without them.

That said, I am still amazed at how, every year, a quarter of a million people continue to make the annual pilgrimage to Matthew Street in Liverpool, just for a three-day festival of piss-ups and crappy tribute bands.

Legends they certainly are, but moreover, they were a bloody good band.
