OT: Dixie Chicks WIN -- Do we get to talk politics now? -- JOKING!

Just kidding. But, heck, did Al Gore look a little stiff there, or what, and next to that huge Queen whatever-her-name-is who was picking confetti off of him. He could have said some funny stuff, but that man is still just BORING! But, he did lose some of that heft.

Happy for Dixie Chicks, after some Right side Media, Fox and Mister Empire tried to destroy their career

Which is a good reason why different genres of music don't mix. Country always looks out of place with R&B and rock. They should have it on Halloween. Then everyone can masquerade in their costumes.

Post-Garth country is a joke anyway. It's more about looks than talent.

Most of the songs are pop songs with a fiddle and steel guitar in stead of horns/strings. Videos showing the Manhattan skyline aren't really country (duh!). Loretta Lynn should kick all of 'em's asses.

DC = some talented girls who got the indistry vote because of politics not music.

Elmo, IMHO country hasn't been worth a crap in YEARS! Loved it when Johnny Cash got popular again and won best album, he put out a huge poster thanking Nashville for all its support. The picture on it was, of course, the famous one of him flipping the bird. Country now has no more substance now than NSYNC and all the other POP trash of the last 25 years.

Anyone ever notice that one of them is cross-eyed too. Not sure which one. Not Natalie, the lead singer. But one of the other ones.

I guess we can assume the Grammy voters are Democrats.

I don't even OWN a Dixie Chicks cd but I was thrilled for them! It justified the remark they made about Bozo Bush, which was totally fine with me! Joan Baez was great in her introduction of them too! NOT READY TO MAKE NICE indeed!

I don't go to a concert to hear political statements. I like what Ted Nugent once said after the Dixie Chicks opened their big traps..."I'm a big believer in free speech, but sometimes you just need to know when to shut the f*ck up!"

ted nugent thinks somebody ELSE has a big mouth and should 'shut the @#$%& up?"
haaaaaaa
thasss a good one....

i don't think there's anything political on the chicks album really...not in terms of advocacy on this or that issue at all!!!

the main single 'not ready to make nice' is about how death threats and banishment and orchestrated hate speech was affecting their personal lives, children... and art...

any parents here? u wanna answer a quesation from a small child why people want to kill mommy and maybe daddy and aunties and themselves???

they are not allowed to write about that?
the music was never an issue...natalie was making a subtle offhanded comment about her own feelings...if only tony blair had listened...they were in the uk when the little innocuous statement was taken and blown up big by those who was it as a threat to their credibility...which is now, like, totally gone anyway.

that's not something they asked for...they sang a beautiful song about a soldier's wife that was wiped from radio immediately in the aftermath of this gentle comment, and now 4/5th of the electorate feels the same way...
with different ideas about how to begin to try to cool things down and get out with some degree of 'peace with honor'...or something akin to that particular advert credo.

these women, and don't think for a minute that their success and independence of thought, dosen't piss off a men, who wish they had that kind of balls...
yep sexism.

they triumphed...everyone who cares about freedom of expression in the arts and culture should be mindful of bigass covert attempts to 'out' a group, or individual, even a government official, without eventually having to eat some major crow...
triumph...not to mention natalie has one of the purest and most magnetically beautiful vocal instrument of all the folks out there....

the world of music fans, of every type and genre, owes them huge thanks.

i still haven't seen their documentary 'not ready to nice' which is up for an oscar next month...but will...

if you can ever catch the pbs austic city limits that featured them from a few years ago...you will see how these women, on a small stage, playing all their own instruments with great versatility...really connect so beautifully and intensely with a crowd...one hell of a band...

today 'bubba' (that's how he bills himself) and somebody else...a radio jock team, were trying their best to ridicule the chicks..."it's time to move on but they won't let us, they keep bringing it up!!!"
you know what that is don't you?
totally wussie...
they made a huge fuss and villified these girls and tried to kill their careers as if they were a covert cia officer or anyone else they wanted to discredit...

it sold two million domestically, won all these awards...and they still were trying to desperately spin it the other way...
'they had to switch venues because of low ticket sales in some markets'!!!!
bubba crowed...and on and on and on...
then under questioning of any kind, they immediatley fold and whine...
'sniff sniiffff, why don't they just move on, we've all moved on..."
sniff sniff...
and bubba got his check for the tv appearance and went back being stupid on the radio.
______
the network 'news/pundit' character this main anchor doof was portraying, (ron burgundy is smarter) also managed to put his nose up in the air about the stones song on abb that deals with the neocon thang, in a direct and full out honest way lyically, from mick's perspective...
the chicks didn't even try to make a song like that...and got skewered anyway...
they came out on top...they won...they survived and flourished...
and little girls all over the world have been empowered and encouraged to be real and brave when a lot of people start yelling at you to shut up and fit their concept of what they should be and how they should act and what they should ever dare to say...
... and a full grown rocker guy like me bought the album just because it's good music.
and today, 'country' radio...cannot play or promote the biggest country act in the world...and the chicks are still going #1 platinum every time out since their debut...every single time...and winning best album grammy ever single time...years before this 'incident'...
perfeck...

I like what Ted Nugent said in an interview recently with some foreign reporter when asked about what a deer might be thinking right before he shoots it. It went something like "They are kind of like the French, all they're thinking about is where they're gonna get their next meal and who they're gonna screw next"

No offense to the French but I just thought it was kind of funny.

wrong. natalie what's-her-name almost destroyed their career. she had the right to say what she said....and the cd buying/concert-going public had the right to boycott dixie chick music. for some reason performers don't think they should have to suffer consequences for making stupid statements. they think free speech is one-sided...as long as it jibes with their beliefs. for them to be shocked when the sh#t hit the fan was hilarious.

as for the grammy wins. even natalie admitted in her acceptance speech that their win was more of a political statement than a vote for the music.

grammy votes do not necessarily equal public opinion. (this goes for academy awards too). it's just true.

here's to free speech...BOTH SIDES!

IORR............but I like it!

You are a moron if you think they deserve a Grammy just because they criticized the President.

Nugent is 100% correct. Nobody friggin' cares about how much the Dixie Chicks hate George Bush, all it does is make them look like another batch of idiots jumping on the Bushbashing bandwagon of stupidity.
