Who is the drug crazed samaria sword swinging "popstar" that wanted to stab Keith in Denver ( page 108-111 )? I was thinking Sly Stone, but he's not from denver and wasn't a musician " that played with legendary bands" as far as I can tell.

It is Steven Stills---he discloses that in his second book.

Yeah........in his book, Old Gods Almost Dead (complete piece of shit), Steven Davis claims that the popstar is "overweight, glamour deprived Gram Parsons".....

Greenfield calls Davis out in his latest book and reveals that the popstar is in fact Steven Stills.

Tumblin--how ironic is it that Greenfield calls out Davis and says something like, "hey feel free to call me at the office next time you have a qustion about the Stones" And THEN, on the very next page he, himself writes that JJ Flash was on Sticky Fingers (!) And, for good measure repeats the mistake later in the book.

Great irony.

Stephen Stills.... God, STP was published in 1974 and for years NOBODY knew who the 'popstar' was. I thought it was Tommy Bolin or somebody. Who was the famous English rockstar who wanted Renee to give him head?

Yeah he makes a real ass of himself there.......but I think that mistake has been corrected in subsequent printings......I saw posts about that mistake on this board then couldn't find it in my copy..and I was looking for it! It's supposed to be on the next page after he calls out Stephen Davis and A.E. Hotchner but it wasn't in my book......I can only assume that after that review in the New York Times (or whichever one pointed out that terrible error) that it was corrected in subsequent printings.

maybe the first printing was a beta test -
interesting alternative to actually paying attention to what one writes,
and/or having a halfway decent editor/proofreader ...

Back in the 70's it seems like everybody had a story about seeing Stephen Stills being a f**ked up jerk at a party.

I first read a copy of STP from the public library where someone had drawn an arrow on the page of that anecdote and written in the margin: "Stephen Stills! REALLY!!"

Sometimes he had a reason to be a jerk. The lighting/sound gear used for The Concert for Bangla Desh was Still's stuff--he was in the middle of a tour at the time. He loans it all--and they don't even ask him to play the show!!

So afterwards he got drunk in Ringo's room and moaned about it.
