Lame oldies show, headlined by "The Grass Roots", minus any of the original members or even anyone who played on any of their records. Far more interesting is the opening act, 81-year-old Brian Hyland, who was 16 years old when, in the waning days of the Eisenhower administration, he scored a #1 hit when his debut single topped the charts on August 8, 1960.

To put that in context, it was four days later, on August 12th, that Pete Best was invited to join the Beatles. Mick and Keith's meeting at Dartford Station was still fourteen months away.

Night before last I saw Pat Benatar... my first time seeing her live. She's still got her pipes... it's 2025 and the hottest female rock vocalist of the early 1980s can still belt!

If you're going to see her this tour I recommend not skipping the opening act, The Vindys. I knew nothing about them but am glad I looked into them first and saw them. From Youngstown, Ohio, their frontwoman Jackie Popovec is a firecracker and can sing like mad. Pat Benatar adores her; brings her back out as support on one song and then they duet on a second, We Belong. Jackie had never performed anywhere in Virginia and appreciated the history of the former Mosque, now the Altria Theater, built in 1927. She was excited to sing on a stage the 21 yr old Elvis performed on in his breakout summer of 1956. (He actually played it on at least three separate dates 1955 - 1956.) She's a rock n roll girl and knows the famous photos of Elvis kissing a girl in a stairwell just offstage.

Im guessing Pat Benatar showed her the spot. Pat began her music career 1973-1975 in Richmond. She was a young military wife working in a bank, saw Liza Minnelli perform, thought "I can do that... I can sing better than her!" And damned if she didn't start doing it

This is on short notice; when the tickets went on sale in November the 1,500 cap GA venue, the Norva, sold out quickly, and not being a fan of their new album I wasn't interested in paying scalpers' prices. However some resellers apparently didn't get their asking prices and are dumping a few at the original $38 face price... so, okay then!

Half the show at least should be from their first 3 albums and these guys are a truly excellent wall-of-guitar sound young rock band.
