Couple of really slow gig years since departing Dublin. Limerick down here on the west coast doesn't get as many, and travel/accommodation in Dublin makes choosing gigs a bit harder.

But, Limerick this summer does have Liam Gallagher - playing the 'Definitely Maybe' album in it's entirety for it's 30th Anniv plus B-Sides. I was sure 2024 would see the Oasis reunion, but alas, not yet,

Liam (and Bonehead I think, plus band) in Thomond Park Limerick is too good to miss.

The thrash titans Kreator /Anthrax / Testament on the same bill in November in Dublin.

Hope to do many more gigs in 2025 though.

But I am buying tix head to Rochester next week to see The Heavy Heavy. I saw them this past week in Buffalo and was blown away. Their album was good, if a little muted and dreamy at times, but LIVE, wow they rocked and were tight. Really impressed with this young Brit band. (they took the stage to the sound of Can't You Hear Me Knocking...and certainly got my attention).

Chappell Roan, in about 18 hours.

Pop per se isn't my genre, but that's a general attitude and occasionally a pop singer hits me as particularly good. I really like her four-years-in-the-making debut album, The Rise and Fall of a Midwest Princess, and she's really taken off in popularity touring behind it. No sooner did she announce this tour than the shows sold out and they're moving all the shows they can to larger venues. Seeing her for $47 while I still can, she'll be playing arenas shortly.

If you can. Tickets to her shows have recently been snapped up everywhere. If you try to go you'll be competing with absolute hordes of teens-to-30something females (who already know, and sing, all her lyrics), supplemented by smatterings of gay men. Don't let the rush deter you. The girl's phenomenal.

It's the strength of her songs. And then the obvious craft and passion with which she delivers them live.

I've never cared about, almost never intentionally listened to, and never seen live, any of the pop princesses. Britney, Beyonce, Mylie, Taylor, Gaga, Demi, ...whoever, they're not my thing. Don't care.

That said, I did overhear, and liked enough to buy, Olivia Rodrigo's "GUTS" last year. I really don't think I'm going soft, there's some legit good stuff on GUTS.

But Rodrigo's album doesn't hold a candle to "The Rise and Fall of a Midwest Princess," Chappell Roan's debut album released Sept 2023.

She's been at this since 16 yrs old, signed with Atlantic Records at 17, got dropped at age 22, snd is now 26. And she's really taking off only now. Tonight in Richmond, an outdoor concert on an island park with a stage, sold out, could have sold several thousand more, and we were the biggest crowd she's played to yet as the headliner. But the new record audience size is going to be broken very quickly, and continue to be.

(The song was Pink Pony Club) Very few people were vidding anything, they were totally engrossed enjoying themselves. People who couldn't get tickets sat on knolls across the canal, without views but just to hear. And as you saw, people were on a bridge way above and behind the stage.

I got the park venue tickets for last night two months ago for $39.50 + a small fee.

This is how fast she's blowing up. I've recommended her to my 28 yr old nephew in southeast Virginia, but for her June 11 show in Norfolk I see they didn't have a larger venue to upgrade to, so she'll still play the 1800 capacity general admission club The Norva (I was there Sunday for Sum 41). It's long sold out and a few tickets are listed on Stubhub for $278 to $389... on top of which are Stubhub's fees.

His girlfriend is from Raleigh, so I checked on Chappell's June 12 show there, which got successfully moved from a club to the 6000 capacity Red Hat amphitheater. John Fogerty, Gary Clark Jr, Dwight Yoakam, etc. also there in June, all still offer good seats at standard prices. Chappell Roan is the venue's only June show that's now just re-sales/secondary market only.

So, I wouldn't dawdle on that Glasgow show

The ticket was an instant sell-out in Britain, too. And also venue upgrade happened in some tour-stops. In Glasgow, the SWG3 Galvanizers (capacity: 1,250) on the tour’s initial itinerary was changed to the O2 Academy (capacity: 2,500) due to a phenomenal demand.

I have already secured a ticket.
