Tonight (or Tonight, Tonight):

Smashing Pumpkins and Jane's Addiction

10/23- King's X (First live band I ever saw as they opened for Pearl Jam in 1994)

Awe man, I'm jealous!

I think Perry had a cold last night. He kept rubbing his nose. Jane’s was great and The Pumpkins were tight. Their cover of Once in a Lifetime (Talking Heads) was unique and heavy. Nice show!

Don't have anything coming up very soon, but just bought a ticket to see Joe Bonamassa next April in Helsinki. Yes, really, that's currently my next show.

Gotta figure out something for later this year.

I was a big fan of Linda Ronstadt throughout the 1970s and into the early 1980s when she still sang rock music. Before she went Gilbert & Sullivan and Nelson Riddle. I can't remember why I never made the effort to see her live back then. Most likely because I like my rock n roll dynamic and she was a stand-at-the-mic-&-sing performer, I guess. Whatever the reason, I regret now having missed her then.

Seems, though, every big act from the seventies has one or more tribute bands now, don't they?

I've checked out enough vids of this 2016 Am. Idol girl Tristan Mcintosh who fronts something called The Linda Ronstadt Experience to see she does a good job. So, tonight I'm going to hear a batch of Linda Ronstadt songs live for the first time ever... unfortunately just not by Linda.

Well, that was wonderful. 'Course, I am someone who regards Heart Like A Wheel as one of the most nearly perfect albums anyone's ever made, so take that into account. Tristan McIntosh is from Nashville and a musical family, I think she's about 21 now -- was only 15 when an Am Idol finalist in 2016 (which I didn't see). She has a powerful voice and great control of it, with a vocal range that seems to naturally fit into Ronstadt's well, and a tone that isn't dissimilar to Linda's. Linda's, granted, did also have a special... IDK, resonance?... timber?... that was unique to her and even a great tribute singer can't quite recreate. That's not a quibble, just a fact of life. Tristan has a charming stage presence -- sweetness, with little occasional dashes of sass. Ronstadt is Mexican and German; McIntosh is a pretty girl and appears to be of some mix of ethnicities herself. It all works, in my assessment anyway.

Peter Asher endorses her.

An hour 35+ min. show. I got much more than my $30 worth and will see them again when they come back around.

__________

Edit:

"I much appreciate your tribute to all of the records Linda and I made over the years. My congratulations to Tristan and the band on doing such an excellent job." - Peter Asher, Producer, Linda Ronstadt

I have no idea if it's common for tribute acts to get this kind of support from the singer being honored's producer. But I suspect not.

Arcade Fire tonight in DC.

Hoping it will be mostly from Funeral (2004), Neon Bible (2007), and The Suburbs (2010), but realistically expect most is going to be from Reflektor (2013), Everything Now (2017) and We (2022), their albums from after they lost the thread. They do have the ability, though, to raise the roof live on a lot of songs.

That was exactly my thought when I was going to see them in Birmingham and Glasgow this year. Their artistic decline started with Reflector and fell dramatically with the following release, Everything Now. I was so disappointed with EN that I have yet to lay my hands on WE, their latest album. I will listen to it someday but I’m not in a hurry.

And the ongoing sexual allegations against leader Win Butler. Both shows were fantastic as ever, but at the same time I found myself struggling to enjoy them from the bottom of my heart. A sad occurrence to the group that once was my absolute favorite.
