Amyl & the Sniffers are awesome. Saw them in May. Amy Taylor is the real deal.

I saw Amyl & the Sniffers in May at Logan Auditorium in Chicago. They're returning to play the Vic in Sept, about 3 times bigger venue. She crushes! Comfort to Me is a great album!

Brandi Carlile - Sep 21

This is one of only 5 solo shows she's doing. I saw her in June 2010 but that was full band, so I'm not sure what to expect, other than it's Brandi so it will be good. She's continuing to do full band concerts while these 5 scattered out solo shows happen too.

Guessing I might've paid $40-something in 2010. She's also gotten quite a bit more expensive. But she was still little known back then. She finally blew up and become widely known shortly before covid, in 2018-2019, with 6 Grammy noms and 3 wins. Not that Grammys necessarily mean anything. But in her case they did.

I love how she woke up a slack, jaded (they're used to having to sit through a lot of just crap) live audience at the Feb 2019 Grammys:
[youtu.be]

This will be in a park amphitheater. Prices are:

General Admission Lawn  $90

Bronze Circle             $147
seats provided but 1st come 1st serve

Silver Circle               $238
seats provided but 1st come 1st serve

Gold Circle                $351
seats provided but 1st come 1st serve

Lawn and Gold Circle sold out before I was aware of the show; but at these prices I wanted just Bronze anyway, and got it.

They are playing a bigger venue in Seattle in early October. Sadly I had already purchased tickets for Afghan Whigs on the same night. I've mentioned this on the forum already but I got to meet Amy in May. I had shown up to collect my ticket (gave my extra 1 away). It must've been good karma. I turned to walk away & there was Amy. We chatted for a bit about Aussie bands. She's a totally sweet Aussie lady, very down to earth offstage. I should've asked her to marry me when I had the chance, haha.

I was disappointed when Amyl & The Sniffers tour ended in May(?) after coming no farther south on the East Coast than Baltimore. I hadn't kept up with them from there -- had other shows to see and covid from it and then Springsteen tix to hassle with. I didn't realize when they extended their stay here they added a show in DC. The 9:30 Club made room for them, it looks like, for a 10 pm late show Saturday Sep 24, after a different band plays its previously scheduled show earlier in the night.

Thanks for the Amyl talk that prompted me to check! This afternoon I snagged a ticket for that DC show.

I'm surprised it wasn't already sold out. Well, they're still a new band, it takes a while for people to catch on... and frenetic, totally awesome punk rock from a half-naked Australian wild woman isn't to everybody's tastes, I suppose.

They're the Stooges with Amy as Iggy Pop. This is a monumental good thing! The Stooges influence in Australia is an amazing thing. I'm not sure but I would be surprised if they ever made it down there, at least on the original run. They sure did when the band reunited. Amy's going to be a big star. So much positive energy. If you can find it, check out their performance at Glastonbury this year. They stole the festival.

Just bought a ticket to Michael Monroe's 60th birthday show here in Helsinki on September 23.

Hanoi Rocks will reunite for that show in their original lineup of Monroe, Andy McCoy, Sami Yaffa, Nasty Suicide and Gyp Casino!

How about that?

I'd go to that! Hanoi Rocks were a great band. Sad that they never made it bigger.

I saw the "2nd version" of Hanoi a couple of times in around 2005-2007 but that lineup only had two original members: Michael and Andy.

They're saying this is just a one-off, but hey, you never know, right?

Looking forward!

Dan, was this the show you're traveling to Helsinki for? Feel free to e-mail me if you have any questions.

I saw Eric Clapton twice this week at Chicago's United Center. United Center has concert capacity of 23,000. For Eric the top section was curtained closed and many seats left open. I'm guessing he played to no more than 10,000 each night.

Harry Styles is coming and has sold out 6 United Center shows. I need tix for daughter and friends. Far away seats cost twice as much as EC did in front. I'm estimating 150,000 people will see Styles at the United Center with his small center stage and added standing room.

Eric put on a very nice show. Excellent music and ability. Very little audience interaction and no varying show or setlist between nights.

Now THAT would be cool, have always wanted to see him at Legends. Might even be worth flying in for if say I could see two or three shows in a week. I assume you have attended those shows before. About when are they typically announced?

I happen to be in LA on business in mid October, so the night after the Bill German book signing and Shidoobee party in Hollywood, I plan on seeing Willie Nelson in Irvine on the 16th. How old is he now, 89? Better do it now.

Then in between this show and the next, we have tickets to see the 49ers and the Chiefs at Levi's Stadium in Santa Clara on the 23rd in my beloved Bay Area and that same night, we have tix to see the world champion Golden State Warriors play the Sacramento (my hometown) Kings at the Chase Center in San Francisco.

Then back to the southland for a conference after the conclusion of which we have tix to The Who (my second favourite band) in Anaheim on the 28th.

Did you mean St. Louie 2021,not 2019? I had like three sets of LDs for that show, but I think you are the one I met up with at the hotel and you had driven in that day from like Chicago or somewhere like that? Well yes, must be Chicago given that your board name is Chitown!

I was hoping to maximize my chances of getting pit but I never did. Still had good seats fairly close to and a little above the stage for what turned out to be a killer show, the best of the five I saw last fall.
