Patti Smith on Saturday (19 August) in Ystad - Wallander territory...
She was friends with Hennig Mankell, and asked to play Ystad!
Small town and small outdoor Folkpark gig.

getting tougher to find rock with the youngsters that's worth the effort. once in awhile something manages to get through but few & far between. what a drag it is getting old...

Agree but they are out there. I've seen Parquet Courts several times, glad to see they are working on another album. Another band I need to see is Twin Peaks, garage band out of Chicago.

not really new but worthy: check out the Magpie Salute. good solid rock from Rich Robinson & other former Black Crowes + others. it becomes clear where the problem was in the Crowes. looks like Rich got custody of the sacred Humble Pie 8-track whilst Chris took the Hateful Fred collection. seriously, the Magpie Salute cd is really great & i've heard some great live tapes. some originals, some Crowes material & some really great covers.

I saw LCD a few weeks ago in Japan at Fuji Rock Festival - one of the best gigs I've been to. Also played 3 songs off the new album which were pretty good.

thumbs up
While I did live in Santa Barbara for two years back in my college days, I've lived just down the coast in Ventura for the last 30 years - a hop, skip, and a jump to both SB and L.A. Originally born and raised in Santa Monica, Ventura seems to be the best of both worlds for me - close enough to both, yet also far away enough. winking smiley

I still go up to SB all the time to visit friends and/or see concerts, etc., - drove through there the other day and just missed the monsoon! But yeah we should hook up for a concert either up there or carpool down south. As for English Beat, are you seeing them at the Canyon in T.O.? They seem to play there ALL the time!

ps - I think we might have met and know each other from the old Shidoobee days - I haven't posted there in years, but am still close friends with many!

Hair -

English @ Soho (on Soho website, but not on English Beat's site strangely). It's smaller, closer and not 1 night before Misfits @ The Forum.

Mostly, my concert balance is $$$ & family. I'm still young enough (maybe) to keep my dukes up, but don't want anyone at home missing me too much.

Re: Shidoobee, you may be right. I've been on this board since...shoot...'97? '98? I know I first met BV in '99 outside the Fillmore (was there every night...and heartbroken when the club gig was canceled). I was a mere 22yo.

I hung out with some of the Shidoobee crowd outside MSG (bar across the street) back in 2003. While Shidoobee is the US fan board, I've always preferred IORR. That said, Stones Doug seems like a sweetheart.

With your tastes, I'm a bit surprised you're skipping the Television gigs @ The Teragram. Saw em there last time...blew my socks off (but the shoes stayed on).

Ahh ok sdstonesguy must have confused you with someone else...thought you were originally from San Diego, a young attorney with a hot girlfriend lol, and hung out with some of us locals at some Stones shows around 2003-2006-ish at Dodger stadium, Hollywood Bowl, San Diego, etc. Like I said, it's been years since I've posted on shidoobee so some of the names have become a blur, but yes, IORR has always been the preferred site, and I've been here since 2003!

ps: As for the Television gigs @ The Teragram, there's still a possibility, but at this point in my life I have to choose my battles wisely - my wife only allows me to go solo to a limited number of shows without her!!!
