Actually I believe it was stated in Ghostbusters 2 that the end of the world was going to be December 31, 1989.

So, you all missed the boat.

Laugh as you will, but in my last sweat lodge, it came to me...Thunder Beings will come from the WEST...and the earth will tremble, then the rind of the earth shall come off her core.....in other words, the darn plates turn upside down.
