The Stones jam with Muddy Waters, Willie Dixon, Pinetop Perkins & band
One of the line-ups: KR (gtr)/MJ (voc)/RW (bass)/CW (dr)/Muddy Waters (gtr, voc)

So NOT the 1981 gig, but 1978. Anybody has more info on this one?

I know Erik, but I can't find any other record on it. Is there a playlist maybe?

I wish I knew more about it, but I haven't even seen a setlist,
I guess Rockman and Gazza knows something...or with sssoul.

It was the night of the Soldier Field day show - July 8, 1978. Muddy was playing at the Quiet Knight. According to someone I know who happened to be there, Muddy was playing his set and, after a while, someone from the club came up to the mic and said that if anyone wanted to leave that they should "leave now - otherwise they would not be letting anyone out for a while." (Apparently they didn't want word to get out and thereby cause mass hyteria). She said everyone stayed and soon thereafter the Stones came out...how cool would that be?!

Mick also jammed with the late Lefty Dizz at Kingston Mines while they were in Chicago. If you see a photo of Mick in a knit skull cap and UCLA shirt playing with a tall black man, that's the gig.

For those who never saw Muddy, I wish I could convey just how powerful he was to see live. His seemingly easy and "they all sond the same" slide solos would would whip the audience into a frenzy. Just listen to the reaction of the crowd on the Muddy Mississippi Waters Live disc during Steamline Women. Not put on at all, he did that to people. God rest his soul, he was The Man!

Yeah Yeah Muddy....inopeng has summed it up pretty well...

Willie Dixon took the Stones down to the Quiet Knight club.
Story goes that Keith fell to his knees and kissed Muddy's
hand when they met.....

Have never seen a set list of the jam...No listings at all
in the Muddy Waters Complete Discography by Phil Wight/Fred Rothwell...

Do have photo/s somewhere of Mick with Lefty Dizz...think it was
even mentioned in Rolling Stone magazine at the time

Quiet Knight Club....Terry Abrahamson

I bet Willie didn't go with them to see Muddy Waters,
or did they stay enemies after the Mannish Boy / I'm A Man dilemma ?

I was confused for a minute; those are indeed the 78 shots. They also went and jammed with the man in Nov 81. Jagger, Keith ans Ron this time. Buddy Guy was there too.

I meant, it's 1978 according to Bill Wyman, it goes along fine with the setlists in that book.

yeah i know, but even Bill has some photos on the wrong pages.
i'm not insisting or anything - it just looks more like Barbarian Keith to me.
but then: it is the same cat, and not even a year difference,
so it's not strange that there'd be a resemblance. :E

- Chicago 1978 (don't know who took it, sorry!)

Not sure with sssoul...always took it to be after Stones show
BUT you may be correct...No creds So?...If the photo is credited
to Bill Wyman then it is most likely after Stones show photo....

I think it looks like 79 Keith, too. It's a bit hard to see, because of the hand in his hair.
There's so many mistakes in that book, though it's a very nice read/watch.
...But, if Bill really took the picture, it has to be 78, but maybe Bill is wrong about that photo-credit.
(PS: the setlist-info is a mess in that book)

... huh? the absence of credits doesn't mean Bill took the photo. but like i said: i'm not insisting
and i don't really feel like wading through the nightmarish credit system Bill uses,
so ... have it your way.

i lied. the photo called "447 b" (for "below") is credited to "COR",
which [damn this useless credit system!] isn't even one of the abbreviations listed,
but i reckon he means Corbis. which would mean it could be just about anyone's shot,
(including Henry Diltz's, the main Barbarians photographer) but not likely Bill's.

so where did you get the idea Bill took it? is that specified somewhere that i don't see?

I'm not much at wading so happy with that....Barbarians it is....On with the show

I loved seeing the "Westmont, IL" in the telegram. I lived in that town briefly. Westmont is a small suburb of Chicago to the west, for those wondering. Not much happening in Westmont at all.

Per Corbis "Keith Richards meets Blues legend Willie Dixon backstage at a New Barbarians concert." The photographer is Henry Diltz.
