No you were right. According to his page on Wikipedia, He joined Eric Burden And The New Animals in July 1968. They split the following year and that is when Eric Burden went on to form War the same year.

My favourite Police story is when they reformed in 1986 for the Amnesty International tour with U2, Lou Reed et al. U2 were following them on stage, and it was suggested that The Police hand over their instruments to U2 as a symbolic way of "passing the torch". They did just that, but they made sure they were out of tune when they did, f.ucking up U2's performance.

Mine is that during the last tour they did, the drummer had finally started to hate Stig so much, that he had the words 'f*ck', 'off', 'you' and 'c**t' marked on his drums so he could really batter 'em during the show...

Why?

Copeland is a nut himself. He was in the line up for The Doors Of The 21st Century, but ended up suing them quickly after he quit... Still, he is a fantastic drummer!

I saw the Police in 1978 in a small club in Syracuse called the Firebarn Tavern. They were touring the northeast in a station wagon!...this was just before "Roxanne"

How can a Stones fan like the Police? Overrated drivel, same words repeated over and over. Lyrically perhaps the worst band ever. Just looking at Sting makes me ill. They are one of a handful of bands that I have to immediately to change the radio station when they come on.

I'm glad I'm not the only one who hates them. Copeland is a superb drummer and musician; actually they are all or were at some point but if there is one thing I can do without is a Police reuinion. Less Sting in 07!

How can a Stones fan decide what others should like? Talk about arrogance. And the lyrics? Worst ever? Have you relly listened to them? You may also tell us which bands we´re allowed to like, and still be Stones fans...

Well, I am a fan of the stones and LOVE the Police! OK, they recorded lots of crap too, but there are at least 5 tracks per disk that are stellar.

I hate the fact the I wasn't able to catch them live, I hope I'll be able this time - that is if the reunion ever takes place!

I've seen all 3 of them individually. Copeland is one hell of a drummer. Fullstop. Just can't sit down when he is behind the kit, esp when he triggered that drive that is a trademark of. Summers I was lucky to see in a small club here in Milano. Maybe not even 30 people attending. He was doing his jazz set at the time (by the way I have a great boot of him + our Darryl Jones of the same year). And, of course, Sting.

There was one constant in all their performances: sooner or later a Police number will appear in the set, and you bet it was the best of the lot. hands down. THe music of the Police period had such power, balls, everything. It was incredible.

I always felt sad that those pricks couldn't find a way to perform together again.

It's like listening to Jagger perform HTW solo, or keith shelter. The real thing is something else!

Keith loved The Police. He used to listen to them a lot on the 1978-tour. He's not too found of Sting though

I saw them live four or five times - best were the early shows without added keyboard sounds - just guitar, bass & vocals, drums. Redefined the term "power trio" for me. A new sound - no blues or bluesrock like other trios. Great songs, great hooks, lots of energy. Just three people creating such a wall of sound. Great musicianship. Less is more. Just compare the current Rolling Stones big band to the stripped down line-ups of the past.

Damn it!

I liked how the Police often reversed Cream's power trio concept in which the guitar was always the featured instrument. instead, the Police often used the guiutar in the background, while Copeland's amazing drumming -- like little rolls off his hi-hat, etc. -- was a focus.

Black Sabbath is reforming and touring this year with Ronnie James Dio back on vocals. Ozzy is in the abyss.

I love the first two Police albums - I've got the rest on vinyl but Outlandos and Regatta are popped into my CD player at least once a month. I haven't heard the other three in years, though.

Their management has been working on a new website for The Police that has not been launched yet...maybe something is in the works?

if the police reform it would be weird....they broke up when they were the worlds top band...

they crushed my heart... they were my first favorite band...

sting turned into an adult contemporary disgrace..

even if they reformed i don't think sting could actually sing the songs.. he's got such a limited range.. sometimes i hear his versions of police songs (like on vh1 specials or something) and they suck

i really hate sting.
