The Police To Reform
by Paul Cashmere - January 2 2007

The Police may get back together this year for a tour to mark their 30th Anniversary.

No official announcement has been made by The Mirror reports that a reunion is on the cards.
This will be the first Police tour since the band broke up in Melbourne, Australia in 1984.
The Police are Sting on bass and vocals, Andy Summers on guitar and Stewart Copeland on drums.
Since the break-up Sting has had a successful solo career.
Copeland is involved with movie soundtracks but was sidelined for a miss-matched tenure with The Doors at one stage.
Andy Summers has concentrated on his jazz recordings.
An official announcement is expected later this month after UK dates are locked in, possibly for May and June.

As I read Andy Summers new book, One Train Later, all I could think of was a reunion. Sting needs to make this happen, the other two will certainly follow.

The book was awesome, by the way. One of the best rock bios I've ever finished.

Question: Andy mentions that his name was dropped as a potential guitarist for the Stones! Any stories to back that up???? The guy played with all of the best back in the day.

Last summer Sting played a lot of The Police songs on his tour.It seems he misses playing that music. He is tired of being adult pop star

Great news! My 1979 Police-shows (New York) are some of the finest live boots I've ever heard.

Yeah I hope I'll catch one of their shows. When it comes to playing instruments The Police are among the best and Sting used to be a fantastic songwriter

Andy Summers has been around since the early 60's. He was in a London group called Zoot Moneys Big Roll Band (something like that anyway!) and played with Eric Burden later in the decade with his group War.

A little known fact is that Andy Summers sold Eric Clapton the Les Paul he recorded Fresh Cream with in 1966.

I remember when The Police came out and I thought, "Well, if a band has to call themselves this, all the good names must be taken."

I thought this was going to be a political thread and someone having the urge to be banned.

Seriously they had an enormous impact at contemporary music.
But I sense we in age 40-45 did get the deepest input out off'em.

Who recalls the story?
"The Police is here" - and the Stones flushing some drugs down the toilett.

Swedish or Norweigan west coast would work as well...

This was really only a matter of time - like Cream in 2003(?).

Yeah, he's 10 years older than the other two Police memebers and six months older than Jagger. Looking back it seems funny that he was 35 or so when the Police were breaking out as the "hot young band."

It's great to hear that the Police are getting back together. Not only are they a terrific band, but this will also spare us at least temporarily from any more of Sting's terrible solo work.

The book was great. And I don't really like The Police all that much.

I always dug the Police when they were around... and even sting's early solo stuff...

but I can't listen to Sting's current stuff... I quickly changed channels from CBS one recent morning when he was on with Harry Smith and showing him serenading and playing a lute in his home/castle.

His first few solo albums were pretty decent. Ten Summoner's Tales in 1993 was the last decent thing he put out in my opinion, he lost me totally after that. And you're right, that whole lute playing thing was the height of ridiculousness.

I think Andy played in a late version of the Animals, not War. Not sure, though.

Just got the DVD of the 1983 Atlanta show (which I attended). As good as I remember.

Later Sting is pretty boring - the wrestler Sting was more interesting.

That would be great, if this is true. I've never seen them live. I've seen only Sting 2x (1985 + 2000). I would love to see The Police live in concert!
