Alas, my place (somewhere in the misty middle distance in that picture) is FAR less romantic - a boring 1930's semi-detached.

I've lived here for only five years and I've never been to Hampton. I don't know about the Who concerts, but the Stones played in nearby Durham last year.

Boring 1930's semi-detached Green Lady, not if there will be some Street Fighting Man from IORR.

slow down guys, you're yucking it up a bit much. progressive, as in political left-leaning, urban simply as in 'city' (some crime and lotsa cement). sorry if it was a vague descrip; lots of folks outside DC might think it's a rightwing town because of the nat'l politics, that's all. and living in an african-american and latino neighborhood (hence the term you conveniently skipped, "multi-ethnic") rules out it being yuppieland, but there are definitely pockets of those rich condo-types spread throughout the city, it's true.

and yes, there are such things as "regressive" urban and suburban neighborhoods. most people just know Regressive politics by its less demeaning, more PC term: Republican!!

luckily many of the worst of those people will be NicoS neighbors in the future.

Check out a film called "Make it Funky" if you can find it. Keith was in it, along with Bonnie Raitt and a lot of great N.O. musicians. Great way to kill a couple of hours!

Dude--yucking it up cause it is FUNNY!! Not to mention more than a little phony and/ or elitist--since I don't know you I am not ascribing that label to you personally, just your description.

What are you suggesting--that people who do not share YOUR views are somehow something less than progressive? Like I said, it's FUNNY and oh, so so PC--well done!! I mean what is cooler than self-congratulation cause everyone thinks like you or at least that is what you appear to believe.

It sounds like a euphemism, cause that's what it is.

BTW who are YOU to decide what is progressive and what is not? A bit elitist,th no? I live in NYC so I need no explantion of the term "multi-ethnic" though I am fairly certain you think that contributes to the "coolness factor".

Oh, by the way, does that mean areas populated by "Republicans" are "regressive?? LOL Dude, please stop taking yourself so seriously, though the levity is always welcome. Thanks!

I guess I live in a "progressive" neighborhood too!! Who knew?? LOL

Btw---is Marion Barry your idea of "progressive"?

Is it fair to state that your prior residence of Chapel Hill was not "progressive" enough to elect someone like Marion Barry?

Just wondering.........

Maine... where it's SUPPOSED to be cold this time of year... but it has been a balmy 45 degrees F all week. We had a few inches of snow a while back, but it's all gone now, just a lot of fog around... It's now more like Seattle around here. Happy Holidays!

glass slide, i'm just excited to be living in a big city again after over 10 years in a tiny quiet college town, that's all. if you live in NYC, yes, what i clumsily described would already be your daily routine. most assuredly not trying to be self-congratulatory or elitist, but you're right, i can see how my original post could read as a realtor's humorously empty catch-phrase. progressive/regressive, left/right, whatever. opposites are opposites. i'ld rather get back to reading where folks are from now, but thanks for the feedback because i could have stated it in less polar or euphemistic terms.

there's some really great pics on this thread so far, btw.

Sure does. Used to walk my beastie along Richmond Hill and then cut through the meadow down to the river ........ pleasant memories indeed. Once actually met Jerry Hall walking her dog along there.
