Reading that Keith drug thing - proves an argument I had w/ by brother-in-law.

The Stones need to get really really high while working on the next album.
Either that, or a least try to make it sound cool.

Please!

Indeed and Keith and Mick Taylor had great interplay, or weaving if you will, during the '69 tour. Not so much after that though.

I still think the using the tongue design is their best decision - as far as marketing the band goes. It's probably the most recognizable logo in rock.

Thought about this long and hard. It had to be some "thing" not a person I reconed.

The Stones did the same things, had the same management issues, et. as other bands. The one thing they did different was not pretend to be there all the time and to keep up the appearance of consitancy. They kept us guessing, anticipating then the thrill.

To stick with it.

In the beginning - recruiting Charlie.

As time went by - not letting their differences keep them from staying together, and staying on the rough, live, noisy, unpredictable road instead of retreating to the safe cocoon of a studio.

"Although, the two shouldnt have been as mutually exclusive as they have been in recent years!"

Agreed - I was thinking more of earlier times when the Beatles gave up on live performance and the Stones didn't - and it made all the difference in the world.

I've been reading a history of popular music recently that makes an important distinction between two different kinds of records. There are artists that Make Records - the important product is the disc, as manufactured in the studio. It's not necessarily reproduceable as a live performance, because that isn't the point ... We all know artists like that.

Then the other kind of artists are those who Record Music - the important product is the music itself, and the disc is just a way of preserving a performance. There may be lots of other performances both before and after the record, as the music lives and grows and develops.

Most bands do a bit of both, but I'm very glad the Stones, on the whole, Record Music. I just wish they'd do a bit more of it lately!
