I dont think his vocals are anywhere near as good as Mick Jaggers.

I dont mean this to be mean, but it really sounds like a pub band, well played and performed, but a pub band all the same.

OpenG,you get my vote for most Mick Taylor I Love You threads, but now you have lost your mind..stick to the the vibrato.
PS not saying he can't sing, but that is no contest, also I've had that CD myself for 16 years,Stanger in This Town is one of his best songs,if he writes more he could get up there with Woods writing.

When I saw the Bluesbreakers w/Coco Montoya, they were playing this album thru the PA before they came on. It is a great album. I wish I knew at which venues the individual tracks were recorded.

I think JJF was done as a spur of the moment thing. It was a missed opportunity for him not to go into a solo on this version as his style particularly suits this kind of song. He was on fire on this tour so he would have carved it up. I don't think he is attached to the song as when I saw him in 1990 or 1991 he refused to play JJF.

OpenG, hopefully we will eventually drag you, kicking & screaming, into the 21st Century. Your Taylor topics are repetitive, and with this one, turning lame.

A very good album but there must be something wrong with it. A guy I know wanted it signed by Mick but he refused saying "I don't sign bootlegs". Money?!

Maybe. A great album but flawed in parts eg, the way I Wonder Why fades in. I'd always wondered that if he were going to do a live album why he threw in JJF which seems a throwaway as well as LIttle Red Rooster. He was certainly on fire that night in Stocjholm though.

I have a video of a concert ten days after Stockholm he was really good then. The blues tracks were five to ten minutes longer so those fade-ins and -outs had to be done to shorten them. He still plays some of the songs. Time for a Mick T, please, stop playing your warhorses thread...

No way is MTs vox better than Jagger's. There's this little thing with this video. More like a recommendation actually: You have to hear it very loud. I couldn't hear the angriness of the band when I played it. To hear it properly you must turn it up. Quite a good version, but a little sloppy. winking smiley

MT better voacals then MJ? Your hero worship has no bounds OpenG, If Taylor's fat ass accidently hit a Cymbal during a show you would call him a better drummer then Charlie Watts :-)

I think it depends on what versions of JJF we're talking about. I think Taylor's version generally is a lot more focused than any of the Stones versions i have heard from 1989 onwards and that probably includes the vocals. I don't however feel it compares with the original studio version or the standard live versions when Taylor was still a member of the group.

No way.Taylor onstage is boring as Hell.No personality at all.

The Taylor worshipers seem to love these kind of things, like when the fatman does a Stones song they all say "see,he's doing their song better than them".They hate the Stones and love the fatman.Fatman good,Stones Bad.Fatman the guitar God,Stones pitiful over rated and talentless. If the Stones are so bad, then why does the fatman always do their songs? Can't he write songs just as good?.......NO.

Pleased to meet you......

Nice guitar work, but way short of the hair-raising snarl that Jagger gives the vocals. Something about working w/ Jagger & Richards brought out the best in MT.

Wow, whoever said that must have some really good yigyag - where'd you get it from?

Mick Taylor must enjoy sounding like someone who is seconds away from a coronary, or Michael McDonald, which are actually one in the same.

These vocals can't even touch Jagger

Actually, OpenG didn't say that Taylor sings better than Jagger, he just asked if somebody thought so.

So is his actually Mick Taylor singing? Or just him playing guitar with another vocalist providing the vox?

It's Mick taylor. He's not a bad singer though he doesn't have a big range. You can also hear him doing background vocals on the IORR album.

You have it right His Majesty, it sounds like a pub band...especially the drummer. Too bad MT didn't hold his drummer to a higher standard; it's as if he doesn't get the genius of Charlie...

Taylor is like Scotty Moore - one of the best guitar players ever, but like Scotty who does not have Elvis's voice and his charisma, Taylor does not have Jaggers voice and his charisma.

If the Stones are so bad, then why does the fatman always do their songs?

Actually this is a misconception. I would say MT has shied away from playing Stones songs.

From memory, the only Stones songs that he has covered are JJF & No Expectations. He plays the 2nd half of CYHMK and why not, he wrote it.

The others Little Red Rooster & You Gotta Move weren't written by the Stones.

Besides his own songs, he regularly does Red House by Jimi Hendrix, Blind Willie McTell by Bob Dylan and a couple of Albert King tunes.
