OT: John Paul Jones' Solo Work

If you have to ask who he is, then read no further LOL. In 1999, the former Led Zeppelin bassist/keyboardist released an album called "Zooma". All instrumental, and a showcase of his multi-instrumental talent.

He did a tour in 2000 with a band that produced an amazing amount of sound from just three guys: JPJ, drummer Terl Bryant and stick player Nick Beggs.

He followed this with "The Thunderthief" in 2001, which did have a few vocals done by the man.

I just wanted to pay homage to one of my favorite musicians, a man who is vastly underrated for his musical contributions as a performer & arranger.

Very very underrated....His keyboard playing is as good as his bass playing..

He´s a fantastic musician and since you focused on his work after Zeppelin I have to mention a cd by Diamanda Galas, The Sporting Life from 1994. JPJ produced it at played bass on it and it´s really great. Very special...

I saw one of those shows back in '00. One of the best I've seen. It was over before I knew it, and not for being short.
The man's got a sense of humour, too. A couple of overzealous kids front of stage, obviously Zep fans, kept yelling for certain tunes. JPJ calmly walked over to them, mic in hand, and told them to "get a life." The entire place, kids included, got a huge laugh out of it.

Yeah I actually think that his keyboard playing is better than his playing.imo

For anyone who doesn't know, the strings on "She's A Rainbow" were arranged by John Paul Jones. (2 years before he joined Led Zeppelin.)

I never knew that. That's why I love this board. You learn new shit everyday.

JPJ also did the string arrangements on several tracks of R.E.M.'s classic "Automatic For The People" CD (incl. "Drive" and "Everybody Hurts").
