The unique flavour being boredom?

You know nothing about my musical tastes or who I am, so the rest of it is just laughable and desperate.

It actually sounds like his guitar is out of tune in this clip to my ears.

This is what music is all about. This is one of my favorite songs he does live. I have seen Mick Taylor five times and actually had a beer with him after the Tin Angel show in Philadelphia a few years back and he was easy going and cool to talk to. His playing is so fluid and beautiful. I could only imagine if he took the lead on some of the stones songs today, it would be very interesting. Mick Taylor is sorely missed and I hope he comes back to the United States soon. I have always thought he was a better fit for the band musically.

I hope he comes to the US too.

MT does not haev a frontman personality- he just doesn't. But so what? I don't know anything about the guys he play with now, but they are certainly not the caliber of Dylan. LIsten to when MT was on the road with Dylan and the unreleased stuff from then- HE WAS GREAT.

The Stones really need to add him to the line-up. A little bit of prctice with the Stones and he would be in top form.

don't give me that ole one two, one two three four

Well was ok...
I love Taylor...
But not some kind of stellar performance I was expecting....and yes, I agree very mellow middle of the road style, which can be good on some things, but with this it just seemed so passionless and him going through the motions.
Kind of sad in a way.

Hi everybody,
is there anyone who can upload the two Ochten shows on dimeadozen.org or the RocksOff Torrent tracker? - if not, I'd like some old-fashioned snail trading, too...
Best

There's a great one on it's way to dimadozen. It might takes a few more days.
Both shows are recorded in fabulous sound quality.
Keep your eyes open baby (cause you dance so good)

i like this clip from '89 better - gets to the point quicker about his solos (and he's got a great voice!)

exactly, he doesn't have a great voice, that's why he's a virtuoso guitar player ! People who moan about his vocals are missing the point.

I thought Taylor's voice was better than average, your not there for his voice,

Jagger's either for that matter..

Much better playing than the Time Waits For No One clip.

And all this crap about a frontman. Alvin Lee's no front man either, your there
(if you want to be) to listen/see them play their guitar!!!

Yes Alimente,
I've seen Alvin many times, a big fan

Comment was directed to the person who said Taylor's not a frontman like...

Alvin Lee was mentioned, I would put them on a par...

Yep. " Magnifique ". Joined on YouTube was an excerpt from 1971 Earls Court with Love in Vain and Bye,Bye Johnny. Never seen those before but the shock is oustanding : Taylor work was simply magic, so fluid and subtle. Goshh...

I have never really liked the songs Taylor plays since the late 80's, but his virtuoso playing always made up for, in my very own opinion, very dull songs. I don't like Taylor's voice that much, but man, everytime the songs goes into to lead guitar part it's ashtonishing again. And that's what I missed in Ochten. Taylor's playing was stiff, dull and boring. He wasn't playig for the audience, he was playing for himself as he needed to figure out what the play instead of playing his heart out.

Middleton played with Beck 35 years ago. He's gained 200 pounds in the meantime, and seemed to have lost all inspiration.

Exactly my point: the guy can be a great bass player for Robert Plant (which is quite complicated music), but he was a terrible blues bassist. This band just comepletely lacked any chemistry, and they absolutely lacked any joy in playing live on stage wth each other.

Again, Taylor is my hero and I have dozens of great live gigs on DVD, but this Ochten gig just wasn't up to Taylor's standards.

Pretty strange, I know some Taylor fans that seen taylor over 40 times, and for them the Ochten shows were two highlights... He was in absolute topform, especially friday, like this youtube post shows for sure, his solos are melodic vituosity.

Why does Mick Taylor's weight always come up in converation? What does it matter. For the people who bash Taylor, go see him once and you will realize why the stones were at their peak with him in the band. Jagger said he thinks that was their best period. He's better playing the guitar than Keith and Ronnie put together. Everyone says the guitars were on fire at recent stones shows. They look lost half the time and sometimes they look bored and are going through the motions. I saw them 9 times on the bigger bang tour so I witnessed this. Keith was intoxicated in Atlantic City and couldn't even stand straight. I was 10-15 feet from the stage in front of Ronnie and he was not all there. Taylor is so underated, if he remained in the limelight he would go down as one of the best. Most guitar players know how valuable his talents are, but your average fan wouldn't recognize this. I play the guitar and he along with Jimmy Page are my two biggest influences. It's a shame he never found his niche and made a big name for himself. I would think a lot of young guitar players once they heard his playing would emulate his style, it's just beautiful.

Everyone is so sensitive re: Taylor/Wood. I'm not sure if you're a guitar player or not, but there is a BIG difference between playing the wrong notes/chords (this is where you're getting a dig at Ronnie) and not having the instrument tuned properly. Guitars go out of tune. The guitar techs are responsible for making sure this doesn't happen. I was only pointing out that it sounded like MT's guitar was out of tune in this clip. If you play the instrument, you can tell immediately.
