But the performance of the song is kind of a mini movie , i.e. video, in the film itself. The sequence could stand on it's own easily IMo

The one I posted is the same vocal performance. Or do you mean the fast version?

So who is playing on the "truncated" version? It surely sounds like a VERY early run through of the tune.Like the slide player sounds still very tentative.

Which one!?

There's only slide on the released soundtrack version as far as I'm aware.

I am talking about the version that was posted via the link up a few posts above. That is not the version from the 45 single.

Ok, thats the demo recorded by Jimmy Miller. It has the very same vocal recording as the soundtrack version.

That's why I'm puzzled by your comments about the vocals, they are one and the same!?

No majesty, i was not talking about the vox at all. Just the musicians. That they still sound very tentative for some reason. Maybe it was they were playing with a clicktk. and it was a tough one.

My apologies, I got you mixed up with beelyboy

Ah, no, the version I posted was recorded with Mick in London.

The American musicians recieved this version with the only the vocals and the click(drum track?) which then became the soundtrack version.

It's not the first time that I give this link.

But, is Steve saying he never took part in any recording session with Mick/Jimmy Miller? Saying he didn't play on this song could just mean the officially released versions.

The version I posted really sounds like steve winwood, the stratocaster lead licks, the bass(check out the blind faith jams for a comparison), piano and organ all feature licks and phrasing similar to steve's late 60's musical output. Why would Mick mention him playing unless he did!?

Majesty, do you think that Jimmy Miller played drums on the single version?

Mathijs and others have posted who plays on the soundtrack version previously in this thread.
