great stuff!!! thank you so much for sharing!!!

my impressions.....

some amazing moments...and some others that are incredibly flat.

if MT were to play with the stones today.....he would have to work hard to get up to their level in many ways.....

you would have some truly amazing moments....but there would be others that were a bit underwhelming.....would be great to see though.

just enjoy it - what has ron wood the done last 30 years he has not practiced and enriched the sound live that taylor did. its hard to just stand there and pose and make faces and try and bend a few notes .lol

I've never really liked the song as much as some folks here, but I've got to admit that it would be wonderful to hear an audience of 20-50 thousand people singing along. And Ronnie would do just fine. The solo ain't rocket surgery, with all due respect to Mr Taylor.

Well - if the Stones had played it like that, it would've been called a trainwreck... But seriously, that is just bad :O

Yes, and seriously, had Ronnie played the solo like that...

Talking bout bum notes...

The whole thing was too sad to hear for me even to finish a sentence properly...

Edit: And let me just add that compared to this, Ronnie's solo on CYHMK was rocket science.

...and a splendid time is had by all Taylor haters who finally could spot a bum note in Taylors playing. fine fine fine you musical experts!!!!! but if you can spot a bum note in Taylors playing Im sure you cant sleep after listening to many of Ronnies solos on ABB tour (until recent weeks when he recovered a bit). you cant sleep because youre still counting!!!!!!! strange that people who forgive Ronnie each and every bullshit he plays and pretend that "he absolutely nailed it" when in truth he played like a beginner are having a day of joy now because they could spot one Taylor bum note!!!

let taylor play this song a few more times and he will nail the solo the bum note happened as he started his ascending pattern up the fretboard at the end of the solo he sure played MORE nice notes then WOODY has the entire ABB tour.

ron wood cant play single note solos and hides his work playing octaves up and
down the fretboard.

Absolutely beautiful...and what a great vocal too.

Sung better than the original, at a slower and more dramatic pace.

Seems like he was feeling his way most of it even at the plodding pace.
The final minute he does better.
Closer to practicing than performing.

I understand you're pretty biased, OpenG - but after watching this clip, saying :
"he sure played MORE nice notes then WOODY has the entire ABB tour."

is way over the top!
geeez

well ... i was never real big on this number, but if the people who have been pining to hear Mick T play it on stage are glad,
then: way cool. maybe the number will get more airings and a chance to spread its wings.

I think this version was a let-down, I must say, not only because of Taylor's playing, but also because of the vocals and the sl-o-o-o-w arrangement.

Pretty nice rendition, with regards to the pace, the acoustic guitar and the vocals, but I agree that the lead guitar was not impressive.

As for Ronnie vs. Taylor, I think Taylor is a much more accomplished guitarist in general, but nothing more than that. He needs the Stones to get the best out of himself. And I think a lot of people exaggerate the lameness and greatness in both of these gentlemen.

maybe taylor didnt have as much to do with this song as we all thought, very uninspired

No need to bring Ron Wood here. The video speaks for itself and it's pretty bad, and that's coming from a huge MT's fan. I saw him in Paris 10 years ago and it was much, much better.

Thanks for posting it.

this cant be a trainwreck because it just goes too slow to wreck somewhere
i am not a fan of the song
in fact i consider that song the farest point the stones went away from the core of their musical talent (that could be regarded by some as a huge accomplishment)
this version is very similar and respectful to the original but the quality of the "band" that delivers (vocals included!)
the fact that mick taylor plays in this "band" brings more evidence to the fact that it is not the number of notes you play that makes a good live performance
i dont care much about bum notes at least since they are not more than the straight ones (!) - and i dont hear many here
but that is not the point of quality
imho there's not much "quality" here in terms of live performance

micwer i agree: no need to bring ronnie in this discussion in order to avoid old and eternal circles. but speaking of one's artistic accomplishments i dont think that ronnie's carreer has anything to be ashamed of compared to taylor's. I wonder if the opposite might be more true

No train wreck......

Just MT in 2006...same as RW in 2006..............they are not the same player as they were in 1973.............just accept this and I love MT

At least he had the nerve to try this out in front of a live audience (sold out venue as well). You have to take into account this was only the second time they played it in concert. Apart from the Radio 192 session (Nov '01) Taylor hasn't touched TW4NO for thirty-two years.
The Santana-esque feel to the solo makes this a pretty difficult thing to play by most guitarists' standards.
Taylor has said that when he recorded it with the Stones he knew it was not something that could ever be reproduced. When he put his guitar down everyone in the studio was looking at him in total amazement.

I don't think it was uninspired on Saturday, he was simply exhausted. On Fridaynight his playing was more focused.
He had been feeling quite ill (flu) most of the day on Saturday and had had a sore throat for 2 days. On Friday he could not speak during the day. It turned out to be a full blown throat infection after he was seen by a doctor.
When he walked on stage Saturday he still hadn't recovered from the night before, despite this he carried on till about a quarter to two.

It was always going to be a gamble to experiment with this song live and given the circumstances he could have chosen not to attempt the song on Saturday. The fact that the monitor settings had been completely messed up after Friday's show didn't help either. On Friday afternoon the band spent three hours getting the sound as good as possible despite the shortage of working direct inputs/channels and for some weird reason the guy on the monitors changed everything around before the second gig started (perhaps during support act's soundcheck), which was disastrous for the musicians (couldn't hear each other's playing).

Okay, it wasn't perfect on Saturday but this is only the experimental phase and it will sound better next time.
Taylor was very dissatisfied with the result himself and this YouTube fragment is not indicative of his skills as a guitarist.

I get it - Mick Taylor is a guitar god even when he screws up! It wasn't his fault right! But I'll give MT his credit for some great solo's what else is there?

I saw Taylor's Saturday performance in Ochten. The Time Waits For No One clip captures the worst moment of the gig and indeed is not a good representation of Taylors skills. Time Waits For No One probably was a unrehearsed guest spot for dutch singer Erwin Nijhoff. Bad decision. Besides this lowpoint the rest of the show was very enjoyable.

On some nights even guitargods can be human. Nobody can be perfect every night, especially not when you're exhausted or feeling ill. Maybe computers can be flawless but for some reason I don't enjoy listening to their guitarplaying very much.

It's pretty funny to see how indulgent people can be for MT when he screws up badly (such as on this video) and at the same time kill Ronnie for screwing up too. I've seen plenty of concerts where Ronnie wasn't at the peak of its form, but he's never been that bad.

There's no doubt that MT is a better musician than RW, that artistically speaking, the Stones were at their peak when MT was in the band and that MT had a MAJOR impact in the Stones best production. But we should feel happy than RW is playing for the Stones NOW, because he is currently much more consistent. If MT is exhausted after a short tour, could you imagine his playing after 18 months of a world tour?

Sure, those random notes Woodie was spewing out during the Sway solos was f-ing embarassing. Sure, he improved over time, but is it that good?even now?
