Re: OT: Michael Richards meltdown

My two cents:
* I don't think it was part of an act or an attempt to shock, I think it was anger coming out in an inappropriate way, and people are right to be repulsed by it.
* Richards probably won't ever get a chance to work again in anything significant, which is too bad because he is a talented comedian (apparently not at standup, tho). Part of me thinks that's what he deserves, and part of me thinks if he sincerely apologizes he should be given another chance. But I'll have to go with "it's what he deserves." Maybe it will make some people realize they can't go around openly spewing out their hateful bigotry without consequences.
* It's not as if Richards had much of a career anymore before this in any case. I suppose after his TV show failed he just quit going to auditions, because he hasn't been in anything since. And why not, he's got millions from Seinfeld and the royalties keep pouring in.
The only thing he ruined was his chance to do more stand up, which is probably for the best. From what I gather he didn't do it that often and wasn't that good at it anyway.
* Seinfeld was a great sitcom, and Richards was very funny in it. Not everything great is on cable, and not everything that's on cable is great. And as StoneTod pointed out, Jerry Seinfeld didn't retire, he is doing standup because he enjoys it. He sure doesn't need the money.
