I can't BELIEVE anyone is giving this no talent a break - where were all the excuses when Mel Gibson flipped out, he was just doing a bit too, trying out a little "ANDY KAUFMAN" style comedy on the cops for his next project, looks like "Selective Cover up to me" Pretty common in Hollywood....

I liked him on Seinfeld. Great physical comedian.
But I think he is out of his element on stage by himself. I think an out of control ego has got to be a part of this. He must have made major bucks of Seinfeld including reruns. There is no way this is a Kaufman like spoof or making some social experiment/commentary. This is an ugly incident and he deserves contempt for this.

GeorgeV (and others) is it so hard to compute that TRUE comedy and Broadcast networks full of language and sexual censorship are like oil and water? THEY DON'T MIX. You're cutting the comedians balls off when you censor him. OTHER POINT, I can't respect a guy who cashes in on a giant payday (Jerry S) and then retires at 40 and goes Porche shopping every week). I admire "Artists" who love what they do and keep doing it - Stones, Macca, Dylan, Plant, etc...Jerry's just a big "in-it-for-the-money-PHONY, same with the rest of that show. What do you expect from this Kramer Dingo Dick? He's not a real comedian, just an EGOed out has been...Richard Pryor is spinning in his grave right now.....Lenny Bruce is looking for another fix....

seinfeld hasn't retired, MB - he's gone back to his first love since the show ended - standup comedy. he tours constantly. sheesh.

Here's a trailer.

actually, not that good, probably a 3-4. But there were some kinda funny silly scenes. I haven't seen this is about 20 years, I should rewatch, see how it aged.

You know what one of my new absolutely favorite scenes in a movie is?
The sex scene is Scary Movie 2 - when they Wayans brother tries to get his girlfriend to talk dirty to him. It's absolutely hilarious!!! Do you know that scene?

Julia Louis Dreyfus has hardly sat on her laurels since the show ended either. Nor has Jason Alexander (though with less success than JLD).

Here's that clip from Scary Movie 2. So funny (but somewhat naughty)

My two cents:

* I don't think it was part of an act or an attempt to shock, I think it was anger coming out in an inappropriate way, and people are right to be repulsed by it.

* Richards probably won't ever get a chance to work again in anything significant, which is too bad because he is a talented comedian (apparently not at standup, tho). Part of me thinks that's what he deserves, and part of me thinks if he sincerely apologizes he should be given another chance. But I'll have to go with "it's what he deserves." Maybe it will make some people realize they can't go around openly spewing out their hateful bigotry without consequences.

* It's not as if Richards had much of a career anymore before this in any case. I suppose after his TV show failed he just quit going to auditions, because he hasn't been in anything since. And why not, he's got millions from Seinfeld and the royalties keep pouring in.

The only thing he ruined was his chance to do more stand up, which is probably for the best. From what I gather he didn't do it that often and wasn't that good at it anyway.

* Seinfeld was a great sitcom, and Richards was very funny in it. Not everything great is on cable, and not everything that's on cable is great. And as StoneTod pointed out, Jerry Seinfeld didn't retire, he is doing standup because he enjoys it. He sure doesn't need the money.

I'm a white, southern guy who grew up hearing (and using) this word daily. Thank God I've became enlightened enough to realize it's an insult and wrong. No matter if black rappers choose to lower themselves or not, I won't.

MR knows/knew better and his career will suffer the consequences.

That said, I think we've became a little too sensitive and PC (not in this case though).

I have always enjoyed his Kramer character, in all honesty l can,t see what the fuzz is all about, he is a comedian, Lenny Bruce did the same thing 40 years ago, some people are too sensitive, l mean The Stones for many years were critized for stuff like the line on Some Girls about "black girls just want to get ---- all night long" them singing those words made them racists? of course no,
If some idiots in the audience were heckling him and he told them off, big deal.
I think the PC thing has gotten out of hand, artists should not be censored, if you don't like their stuff don't see them.
Anyway thats my humble opinion

You're obviously misinformed. You praise Curb Your Enthusiasm, when it's a Seinfeld copycat from the (same) producer of Seinfeld. As for Jerry he didn't retire. He did the exact opposite of what you're accusing him of. He left TV where he was making insane amounts of money to go on the road, in small theaters, and do stand-up comedy.
Make sure you know your facts before you give us the "artists'-integrity-critique" speech.

Hey boys, Whoa, so very very sorry, excuse my ignorance but after his shit show went off the air I remember Jerry, the one trick pony comedian telling Howard Stern he was done and wasn't gonna do stand up. Then HS teased Jerry so much he turned into an even bigger baby and stopped doing Howards show. At the same time Jerry had found his true love - a 17yr old teen Babe - Shoshawna or something - with giant tits (Stern even did a great video montage to the relationship with a Jerry look a like on his one and only New Years Eve pay per view - it was taken out for the Video release).Jerry spent a couple years trying to decide which tit (left or right) he liked better then dumped her. He met a real woman (30ish), got married, had a baby, and now was dying to get back out on the road to get away from all that domestic bliss..... Whoa, just saw a clip of Jerry on Letterman tonight (they tape at 5:30 I believe) on CNN (wonder who they had to bump). Jerry's on live doing damage control (lucky they caught this "Road Rat" at home and not on tour) with Kramer on satelite admitting he flipped out (i.e. It wasn't a bit). Whatever, a ZERO story involving ZERO'S. Let me reset some compasses - BEST COMEDIANS: (in no special order)

SAM KINISON
RICHARD PRYOR
CHRIS ROCK
LENNY BRUCE
DANGERFIELD
JOHN BELUSHI
EDDIE MURPHY
ANDY KAUFMAN
PAT COOPER
LETTERMAN
CARSON

a few more I can't think of...

# 998 Jerry "I gotta new Porche" Sienfeld.

I have not seen the clip yet and judging by your responses I'm sure it was very distasteful and disrespectful, but out of curiosity what is insulting to a white man or woman?

Being called "white boy" or "white trash" or "trailer trash" or "redneck" or "cracker" or whatever. It seems everything has to be properly worded when a black person or jewish person is concerned.

White people get insulted every day but life goes on. I'm insulted by the fact that a television program called BET is ok but if WET (white entertainment television) was on we would be called racists. That is just one example.

Re: OT: Michael Richards meltdown

This is NOT an Andy Kaufman. Andy thought out his routines. Michael was out of control, completely. He was saying exactly what he was thinking, what is in his heart. He is a racist, and it's much more than the superficial racism that most people are sometimes guilty of. The fact that he's now made such a half-hearted apology on the Letterman show proves it (the CBS News ran it tonight, and it was embarrassing to watch).

When someone does something to hurt or offend you, it's because of a decision they made as an individual. What would he have said if the hecklers were white? I'm sure nothing to do with their skin color, because he wouldn't have judged them on that level. Seeing most of the tirade on the TMZ.com video is incredibly offensive. I don't think his career will recover, what little career he had. I don't see him the same way.

Yeah, he does his "Stand Up Act" once in a while - in the tri state area when he's bored - BFD.... He still takes off more time than GWB used too (when you own 100+ little sports cars that's a lot of wax jobs one has to do - and I ain't talkin' BRAZILIAN wax - lol)

BTW, I UNDERSTAND that CURB was connected to Jerry's Show/People...but, it WASN"T SIENFELD and it wasn't censored - Big Difference !!!.................

Oh FOX TV just canceled their "Interview With a Murderer - OJ - TV special" That's braodcast TV for you, interviewing a murderer like it's accepted in civilized society, That's why the Brain doesn't watch Broadcast (except Letterman) - they'll put any crap up for money...what class Fox has, Holy Sh*t.....How about "Name that Pediphile" Game show....Murdock, you listening my man?.....

NOTE TO MICWER - Sienfeld is famous for his Porche collection - he picks a new one up ALMOST every week or so.......

Listen but lets face it.....i think richards is speaking the truth. i can almost say that the person who called him a cracker was one of those pricks with a backwards ballcap and pants that go down to his knees. First off, he maybe shouldn't have used the N bomb so much or at all. but this jerk off, who yells out cracker to guy who is worth more than that guy will ever make needed to shut the hell up. im sorry but being a comic is not an easy job and you put in a lot of dues, so to make it and get the F U money and than have some low-life punk call you a cracker well no wonder he was pissed. You got these guys walking around, black, white, latino and every other race thinking their tough shit.....well if they r tough shit join the military and fight for toughness. And if some white guy heckled a black comic and said......chocolate bar and the black comic wouldve meltdown like that, ALL OF YOU WOULD BE LIKE HELL YES HE DID THE RIGHT THING! It is wrong how over bored michael richards went but @#$%& the other guy in the crowd is a racist as well. BTW........I'M BLACK SO DONT CALL ME A DAMN CRACKER ASS CRACKER OR ITS ON CHECK IT YO!

He is certainly free to make a complete ass of himself. This was not a rehearsed comedy routine and he was pissed! And let slip some strong rhetoric, trying to cloak it in the form of comedy. Yeah, classic comics like Lenny Bruce and Richarch Preyor did it, but you saw the talent and intent behind it. Richards was just plain f*ucked up with anger, frustration, and maybe some chemical enhancements!
Poor fool, it'll take him ages to get throught this snaffu!
