I recently added some 60's super kluson tuners to my custom, and put on uncle lou's plastic tips which makes them closer to the original 50's versions that came with customs circa 1956 - 58...

A couple of them need re doing though!

original 56 custom headstock...

I may go for some aged DMC pickup covers next...

Looks really nice.

How about ageing the pup-cover with muratic acid yourself.

ACID!? EEK, I wouldn't trust myself to do that safely!

Ive read vinegar will age things, just takes more time though!?

You only use about 20% of diluted muratic acid - but you do have to be careful.
Sometimes the vinegar fumes doesn't get a grip on some parts, especially chrome.

in either case it's a stinky job, but much cheaper than buying relic'd stuff.

What a beautiful guitar! That's still a dream guitar to me, a '57 3 pickup Custom. I only would change all the hardware to aged nickel (and the tuners to aged Grovers), but this is my dream guitar.

My guitars now are a black '72 Custom, a Zemaitis TerZetto and a '59 Historic Les Paul. Hopefull next week I will add a '59 Les Paul TV (Junior double cut in yellow).

Thanks open-g. Yeah, I've been fortunate over the past twenty or so years in that none of these cost me more than $1500 at the time ( the red '65 ES-335 ) and I wouldn't be able to afford what some of 'em are going for now. That white guitar was definitely the cheapest of the bunch but it's actually served me well as a back-up at gigs so far-it's an Epiphone Wilshire/Crestwood reissue from last year. The originals, made famous by Fred "Sonic" Smith of the MC5 and Deniz Tek from Radio Birdman ( who bought Sonic's), go for huge bucks so I figured I'd pick one of these up...thinking of putting a Bigsby on it. I'm still getting this digital camera figured out but will try and put some individual shots up.

Man, this thread is like porn!

No pics, but my arsenal is...

a '83/'84ish Les Paul Standard, black
an early '00s '57 reissue Strat, USA, 2-tone sunburst
a '94 Japanese '72 Tele Custom - black w/maple fretboard
a Guild D-4 acoustic from '91 or '92

with a Vox Pathfinder and a Fender Deluxe for amps.

Here's my lot. A couple are no longer here and there's a Rickenbacker missing from the line up but as it's not a Stones related guitar I didn't include it.

Regarding the use of a TS 09...............I use a Bad Monkey.....much better than the Ibanez....in front of my bassman....with Keiths settings on the amp it is ...STUNNING......I use the Vox Valvetronix set to the Tweed Twin and the 2 played together they are awesome.......The Vox is the clean and the Bassman carries the dirt...........

My Tele's are both 5 strings....with Gibson pups in the neck.....on the left the Tele has a CS Nocaster 7.3k....and the Tele on the right has a Nocaster pup 10.2k.....from the Cunetto era.............The 335 is a Sheraton fitted with Gibson Classic and Classic+ pups

The pedals left to right are Marshall Reverb reflector...Digitech Bad Monkey....Boss TU2 tuner.

I know that Keith and his techy have messed around with different valves in their time......the standard valves in my set up are very good indeed........I am sure that they have also played around with different boosters over the years.......My sound is very much like his current live sound and that of the X-pensive Winos period....the sustain is 'wunnerful'

The rest of my arsenal.............

Nice collection you have there, Fingers.

so both of your Teles being set up 5-string, I suppose you play them in open G all the time, right?
Is that a MIK Lite Ash on the left and did you install the neck-buckers youself?

- Diamond (gibson melody maker copy)
- Cort (acoustic w pickup)
- Maya (electric bass)
- Estruch (acoustic)
- Fender vibrochamp (amp)
- Some other driftwood

Re: IORRians' guitars

open-g.......The one on the left is a Squier Butterscotch.......I changed all the electrics and fitted the humbucker myself........eye popping smiley

The one on the right is a MIJ 52ri.........the 'bucker was fitted for me by Charlie Chandler......It was only later that I found that he overhauls Keith's and Ronnies guitars before any sort of tour.

They are both 5 strings tuned to G.....about the most fun you can have with your clothes onsmiling bouncing smiley..........The Lil' Squier is the capoed guitar...normally at the 4th fret, for JJF et al and sometimes at the 2nd fret for 'Happy'.

The 52ri does all of the open work and is awesome........

Love 'em both.

1971 gibson (black) les paul custom, 1972 martin d-41,1991 gibson reverse (cardinal red) firebird V,1993 fender usa 57 reisue sunburst strat,1993 fender usa 52 reisue butterscotch blonde tele,1994 gibson ( tiger stripe cherry sunburst) les paul classic premium (AAA) plus top,1982 gibson heritage reisue flying V (karina antique natural)1998 fender custom shop 1954 reisue aztec gold strat. also for amps 1962 fender brown super ,1971 fender silverface twin, 1998 fender prosonic red lizard tolex, this amp just smokes .the clean channel is a fender blackface vibrolox, the drive channel is like a marshall with tons of gain and as fender said "violin like sustain for days".the prosonic has 5881 power tubes and a tube rectifer.i can not get any more pleasure from playing thru the prosonic.the only thing that would come close would be the classic marshall stacks, which then i lose my fender twang.talk about tone heaven .

After watching the First Barbarians dvd a couple of times I felt compelled to do something rash that I'd been considering for a while...'58 Junior.

Yes Juniors are great guitars, something about the single PUP, same thing with an esquire. I've been told by luthier friends that the magnetic pull of the neck PUP effects the sound of the bridge PUP. So an LP special bridge PUP will not sound quite like the Jr.

Hey Dixiecup,

Re the Junior: I only got it a couple of weeks ago and have played it through my Orange Head and a 4 x 12 cab-it absolutely sizzles ! Extremely light as well.It had a headstock repair done many years (great job, though)and that was basically the reason I was able to afford it as the asking price was less than half what they're going for in mint, clean shape.
