Paul Weller - Stones is there a connection?

Have been told of a connection between Paul Weller and the Stones by my father-in-law who tells me that he did "their, you know, sounds stuff." As he told me that the mutual friend, via Paul Weller, was driven by limo to see the Stones ("mind you, he didn't have proper tickets, just saw the show from behind the stage") for last summer's tour, I though this was worthy of finding out more in the hopes of getting tickets, should any be around for 2007.

I am slightly sceptical about the Paul Weller connection, as for the last 3 months we were told that he was Pete Townsend, not Paul Weller, so it is quite possible that the concert was actually Charlotte Church or was it Robbie Williams...?

So has Paul Weller ever done anything with the Stones and if so what?

Paul weller tried to cut Gimme Shelter for his Studio 150 album , but apparently it didn't work out, so it didn't make the album.
On the b- side on one of his latest singles there is a track called 'Super Lekker Stoned'. That track has a 'stones groove feel' for me (more a jam, but it grooves!)

All those punk (though the Jam were not punk) groups from that era slagged off The Stones, Zeppelin etc. It was the cool thing to do, while ironically, probably liking them quite a bit.

Yeah, liking them quite a bit and stealing from them a lot. And not being able to play as well, for the most part.

Perhaps true of some of those bands, but certainly not so of Weller and The Jam. An excellent band.
