Error! Keith messing Brown Sugar
Posted by: 5string ()

Why does Keith keep messing up the intro to Brown Sugar? Seems to happen quite alot! It's not that hard. I'm really worried about him. Cheers!

Not the easiest thing in the world to play with the proper finesse. Getting from the 5th fret back to the 12th correctly is tough.

c'mon, with all due respect, this isn't high school band, the guy is a professional. I would use his arthritis as an *excuse* before the 5th to 12th excuse.

C'mon.
Even after you've played it about 15,000 times?

Actually, I forget what show it was I heard last, but on that nite at least, he nailed it.

I've pondered this and do you think it could be a visual problem? Maybe he can't see the frets that well. I have seen photos of Keith with reading glasses. Time for a contact lens maybe?

Come on! He should be able that intro with his eyes closed! To f@ck up such a song is sad.

To all critics - please post a version of you playing it correctly.

I can play a number of Stones songs, but this intro always screws me up, too.

Hey Elmo. Which songs do you play? The open tunings are fun, no?

Yeah, I love playing around with the open-g. Hard to find original sounds though as it almost always sounds similar to a Stones lick (not that that's bad).

HTW
SMU
OUt Of Time
Wild Horses
Dead Flowers
Last Time
Satisfaction
Beast
JJF
Miss You
Till The Next Goodbye
Imagination
Under My Thumb - fun to play the riff

but will try any of 'em.

Those are all fun! The Last Time is really strange-a nine fret hammer on. And I have a HTW tape with just one guitar, but I still can't get it down exactly. It's nice to hear on it's own though.

To quote John Lennon: Don't criticise, do something better.

It happens so frequently that I just presume he's screwing around with it on purpose.

No criticism here. Just concern for Keith and the band.

cheers

I too have noticed Keith arse this up every now and again. Sometimes he nails it and sometimes he does'nt. Like everything concerning Keiths playing, dodgy didgits aside, I put it down to how much he's had to drink!

A collector friend of mine sent it to me. It is the studio version. As for posting it I'd be glad to if I knew how. I guess I need to transfer it to cd.

Unaware that this board was reserved for professional players who never screw up. Please send me the name of your band/CD so I can pick them up and enjoy your immense talents.

Keith does kind of ask for the stick he gets about this . He does regularly screw up the openings of BS and JJF ...especially when it's the opening song !
I reckon it's largely because he's more interested in making an entrance than playing his bloody guitar half the time ;^)

Sometimes, it's the soundboard guys not being quick enough to cut the opening film music and bring Keith up.

poor excuse. playing alittle off time is frayed edges. totally blowing a part means you f>>>>>> up the song. that's why you practice

Ya borrow Keith's Arthritic fingers a day
or two and achieve to play what he plays, then you'll see.

Alas lost photo cred.

The answer probably lies in that photo. But does no one else think it may be a visual problem?

It can't be visual, I mean, I can play a lot of Stones songs, no matter what the tuning, in pitch darkness, so I guess Keith can surely do way better than I do.
Guess it's the hands ...
