Mick Jagger's father dies aged 93

Sir Mick Jagger's father died tonight at the age of 93, a spokesman for the singer said.

Joe Jagger died from pneumonia in hospital at 10pm, the spokesman said.

He was admitted to the hospital in Kingston, Surrey, just over a week ago after injuring himself in a fall at his home.

The Rolling Stone, who is currently in the US for the band's A Bigger Bang world tour, flew to Britain yesterday to spend time with his father in hospital.

He later flew back to Las Vegas where he is due to perform tonight.

His spokesman confirmed that the concert would go ahead as planned.

The spokesman said: "Mr Jagger was admitted to Kingston Hospital, Surrey, just over a week ago and died of pneumonia.

"The family would like to thank the hospital for their care and support."

He said the family would not be making any further comment at this stage and arrangements would be made for a private funeral.

Sad news indeed. What a life he must have had, and how proud he must have been of his son. The joy in his face when he was at the palace that day with Mick was something to behold

RIP Mr Jagger and deepest sympathies to Mick and all of the Jagger family. Its of some comfort that he got to say his goodbyes to him

i am glad mick was there for his dad's last day - that's the important thing. i can only think he's back for the show tonight because there have been too many cancellations/postponements already.

if he doesn't cancel/postpone tonight when his grief has got to be at it's worst, i can't see why any more will be cancelled/postponed.

Sad news. Imagine you had to perform with your dad having died.

Thank you, Mr. Jagger sen. for giving Mick this talent.
RIP

yes, but right now is most likely the worst of it - the initial shock and grief, don't you think? that has been my experience with death.

depending on what burial choice they pick, there is some degree of flexibility with funeral dates. for example, my aunt was cremated in september after her death, but we're working on a december date for the funeral, in order to prepare the best memorial for her possible.

can't imagine how Mick will get through the gig tonite (but, he will). But, you can bet Boise will be postponed; Stonesdoug's already hinted at that likelihood.

That can be the case sometimes Queenie- other times is takes awhile to sink in. Grief is a strange thing and can be different for different people.

I remember when my grandfather died it got worse when the funeral processions started.

My sympathies to Mick and the whole family.

Rockman, do you have a freezeframe of Michael Philip climbing
a wall on National TV with his father aside??? Would be great to see.

Shortly after Mick landed in Vegas he got word that his father had died.

its always horrible to lose a parent.

no matter what age you are, i lost my mum last year when i was 36.

hurted like hell then and it hurts like hell now.

people say you get over it or used to it, but you dont.

then they say but you accept it, you dont.

but you have to live with it.

i know what you are going through mick, you are a strong person and will come through.

your dad must have been very proud of your acheivements.

No, the tour will not end. Some shows will be rescheduled, but the shows will go on. This is not being cold-hearted. I suffered a couple of family losses during my club-playing days, and I did miss a gig one time, but Mick will soldier on. Yeah, it's heartbreakingly tough, but, in show business, the old cliches do apply.

I learned of the sudden death of one of my family members in the middle of a gig -- I got a phone call while we were on a break -- a 40-year-old first cousin -- one year older than me -- heart attack -- gone -- that was in March 1996. Nevertheless, I finished the show, and left for home afterwards. I know how it feels.

Mick will have to rely on all his professionalism to perform tonight. I guess the stage gives him sort of an escape but still he must be in a state of shock.
My thoughts and condolences to Mick and family.

If there were a Musician that has the guts to handle the grief and put on a show it's Mick Jagger.
Mick doesn't like to let the fans down, and I imagine his dad would have wanted Mick to perform on such a day. I wish I was in Vegas for this.

correct. I'm sure the last thing he needs is to have to go and perform (although maybe in some ways its therapeutic and a brief diversion, who knows).
