JJ Cale and Eric Clapton. Cool record. Check it out.

I have been talking about this all week and should probably stop--lol. I heard about this over the summer and thought it sounded like a great idea...and, clearly it was. I am with you Chav, just a great record that I highly recommend, lots of great playing by all involved.

For me, personally, I seem to have really gotten into EC in a big way this yr. His playing sounds more inspired and it certainly helps that he seems to have stopped trying to be the flavor of the month and just focused on playing great guitar.

Cannot recommend this highly enough. This and Setzer's "13" are just overflowing with awesome guitar playing by 2 masters.

on my list of things to do this afternoon - buying that and Los Lobos highly acclaimed new one....

That sounds like a good list there Tod! Am unaware that Lobos were still together, let alone had new music coming out, sounds interesting.

Ps Make it a banner day and pick up Setzer's new one---that guy is a guitar master.

i'll consider that. LL have never been away - been pumping out new albums about every other year for 25 years. tour constantly. just the best band in America and have been that for a long time. this new one is getting branded as possibly their best since Kiko, which is probably the 90's best album, IMO.

I will check that out. Get the feeling that Los Lobos is far more popular on the west coast as opposed to the east coast, could be wrong (often am!) but just always seemed my impression. Then again radio died a very tragic death here in NY about 15 yrs ago, so who knows.

Except for my dad who speaks perfect spanish and has several of their discs. Few things funnier then hearing my dad listen to Los Lobos (or other act that sings in spanish) putzing around his back yard with a discman singing in spanish. Gives new meaning to accapella.

could be - although I know the tour in the east often as well. but, as far as I'm concerned, they've never issued a weak album...and that's an impressive run, indeed......

It is. Now you have piqued my curiosity. I will check them out.

Because I tend to wear down by the end of the week am just getting the "essay" bit. Ya know, sometimes the neurons do not fully connect........

got back from the store with EC/JJ but sans LL (sale price went away - i'll wait)...but picked up a couple oldies - Eddie Cochran and Sun-era Orbison...can't beat that stuff....

Re: OT: THE ROAD TO ESCONDIDO

Eddie Cochran is great!! Amazing talent--Setzer played him (and very well I might add) in La Bamba. You can't beat that stuff---Love rockabilly.

Funny, never owned any Orbison, always viewed him (probably inaccurately) as more of a crooner.

The Sun Sessions, sounds like a good idea--might be time to cue up Elvis Sun Sessions............

Hope you enjoy the EC/JJ

If only Clapton would not spoil the joy of listening to JJ... not sure if JJ really needed this.

i think ec needed jj, actually. his last album (back home) sucked!

Re: OT: THE ROAD TO ESCONDIDO

EC definitely needed JJ, but you could also make the argument that JJ needs EC because it affords him the opportunity to reach an audience he would otherwise not be able to touch with a barge pole.

And, I am certain that someone will say JJ couldn't care less about those things and that may very well be true. The guy seems a bit reclusive.

Bottom line---great record.

huge jj fan. but, i've been jinxed as far as seeing him live - twice with tix, twice didn't see him - twice puking was involved.

So, I take it you were going with your "6 martini" buddy.

Never seen him either--my sister saw him in Chicago (I think The House of Blues) and said it was excellent.

J.J. and E.C. meld nicely on this. Can t stop playing it. Billy Preston plays great soul and gospel like organ parts. Probably one of the last things he did.

Believe I read someplace it was the last thing he recorded

once i literally came down with the stomach flu just before the doors the joint opened....years later, the same guy (no, not 6martiniguy) that went to that show tossed his chips on the guy in front of him - too much combo cigar/whisky/etc....had to take him home and missed the gig....later wound up on jj's live album....the music, not the chips....

That is some seriously bad karma. Loyal to your friend though and must be something of a diplomat, cause that is a great way for a fight to break out.

it came close - he tossed on this guy's brand new leather jacket! he came back to the lobby looking for him and i assured him that the cleaning costs would be taken care of - and they were....i really need some new friends. will you be my friend?

LOL!! Sure--it sounds somewhat dangerous though....

Like I said, knew there had to be some quick thinking diplomacy involved--well done.

Unsolicited suggestion---explain to your friends it is a marathon and not a spint....

and i didn't even recount a very recent situation with even ANOTHER buddy from a few weeks ago at the Pogues show in SF....another "total blackout" deal - and this guy's an experienced drinker - we've hoisted many a tipple in many of Scotland and Ireland's finest establishments. I'm beginning to think it has something to do with me....

That or maybe your buddies need to ease off the gas pedal a little.....lol

Perhaps coors light---they can drink 100 of those and still get through the show.

Sounds like the title of a Hope & Crosby "Road" picture.

So if they did a remake of one--with Bowie and Mick--who would be Bing and who would be Bob?

It's a real great CD

Especially (besides the 2 masters themselves) Derek Trucks puts his signature slide-guitar in some songs that really lifts the song. Also Albert Lee's solo is brilliant in the one song he plays. (as brilliant usual with Albert Lee)

sjef---Does Albert Lee play the solo in Dead End Road? I bought this from iTunes so, of course, there are no credits, though someone told me that this record does not break it down song by song. It sure sounds like him---that solo, to me is one of the highlights of the record.

Hi,
Yes that's Albert Lee..! Brilliant right? Check out his albums with his own great touring band Hogan's Heroes, that's really amazing stuff...
