2006 Beacon Too old and too SLOW! HOPE

On the evidence of the youtube snippets and the 8 selections from Pie, the Rolling Stones 2006 sound on truly fantastic form. One of the posts I read yesterday from someone who was at Beacon 1 said they were too old and too SLOW. I agree it is not as FRENETIC as 72-75, but the tempo of the band has, if anything, increased from the Licks tour, and Charlie has got the best swing i've heard in 20 years.
I'm so bored hearing from all the people what the Stones should and shouldn't do, a large number of people seem to be very conservative and prescriptive. I love it when they get CAg or JT, or anyone up with them, i want them to sell their music to a much younger audience AS WELL, i love the idea that the RS can appeal across the board, and range of music genres. saw them at Brixton and Sheperds, wish I could have been at that lovely theatre in their adopted home town. What the stones truly have is a kind of alchemy, and when all the elements mesh together they are greater than the sum of their parts, it is THAT that makes them, in particular their sound so quintessentially human and rousing, they often don't hit it, But when they do it is sublime, i think that's the HOPE all the people who go to see them HOPE, GET at the start of one of their concerts HOPE, and the big fans are really addicted to HOPE, rightly so BUT i don't think we should either mix or confuse the sometimes ecstatic sound they produce, with whether they are NICE, LOYAL to us the fans, HONOURABLE etc etc - they are sublime entertainers, provocateurs, occasionally brilliant, often apparently mean and selfish, LIKE WE ALL ARE- "let him who is without sin cast the FIRST ROLLING STONE" Etc Etc LONG LIVE THEIR RAGGED GLORIOUS IMPERFECTIONS BECAUSE THEY ARE A REFLECTION OF EVERYTHING WE ARE, WOULD LIKE TO BE, AND EVERYTHING WE'RE FRIGHTENED WE MIGHT BECOME!

Now here is a guy who hits the nail right on the head. Couldn't agree with you more. Hey, that little blonde, Christina A can sing with anybody. My only beef is, I always considered L.A. to be their adopted hometown, think "Gimme Shelter" and "Exile" but that doesn't matter because I really dug your post. Made me feel good. In the end....ain't no party like a Rolling Stones Party.

how conscious do other people think the sones are about their tempo, currently, and in relation to their other tours?

guy, good post. I was there on Wednesday and had the time of my life. About your question regarding their tempo. I think it really varies song to song. For example She's So Cold is still played at a good fast tempo, maybe not as fast as some of the 81/82 versions but they also screwed that song up a bunch of time that tour and I think they really nail it these days. Songs like All Down The Line are played at a perfect tempo, just right. However they may have played it faster in the past at times which also worked the songs still kicks and is probably right around the same tempo as the studio verion. Also Mick's vocals are great nowadays and he makes sure the songs don't get out of control where as in the past sometimes he was all over the place with his singing. Which I am sure could have been a result of too much of the white powder.

Just watched recent peformances of JERRY LEE LEWIS on you tube for about an hour and a half. He is 71 (only 8 years older than MJ and 6,5 than CW).
JLL also slowed down, but remains etc.
